To tackle the state's deficit across Louisiana, higher education was hit with a $50-million cut which directly affects UL with a $3.3-million cut back.
Starting with a $1-million cut from external research centers in manufacturing, the LITE center and the Picard Center for Child Development. Jerry Leblanc, the VP of Administration and Finance says these cutbacks will have a negative effect on state's economy. Another $1-million was cut from athletic support. The Athletic Department now will depend more on private funds and aide from the community.
"The Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation will become more critical as we go through successive budget cuts," Leblanc said. The third $1-million cut was made from UL's Educational Resource Equipment and Acquisitions.
