LAFAYETTE — A glance at the Sun Belt Conference standings shows the University of Louisiana at Lafayette tied with the University of New Orleans for last place in the West Division.

However, UL basketball coach Robert Lee, said in the case of his team, that’s misleading.

“When you’re talking about the best team (in the division), it’s (ULL),” Lee said.

Lee argued his case Thursday night after the Cajuns defeated division-leading South Alabama (59-53) in Mobile, to collect a third straight victory.

The Cajuns (8-14, 4-7) expect to take that momentum when ULL plays at 7 p.m. today at Trojan Arena.

Troy (11-11, 4-6) defeated UNO 62-58 Thursday night.

Lee said South Alabama, with only three losses in 10 conference games, will probably win the division’s regular-season title.

Despite that, the Cajuns are finishing strong in preparation for next month’s conference tournament, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Lee said.
