Mooooooooonshot mahtook
it was alot of not fun, i can tell you. thankfully, skip was just starting to rev up the program as the football team entered the dark ages. baseball a pale, pale substitute for football, but it was nice to have something to fall back on. skip won 5 c'ships between the bookends of lsu's last/next top-10 football teams ['87/'01].
there is some truth to this sentiment. tulane WAS a heated rival, but lost the rivalry when they never won anymore--'bama has won all of 3 games with the tigers since 2000. if you hardly ever win, it does cause some heat loss. and should 'bama lose monday, it'll essentially lead to another 4-in-a-row for lsu, as a 'bama team losing a ton will get drilled next year in tiger stadium.
thanks for pointing this out 'hawk.
I have no problem with LSU fans hammering Alabama, both fan bases do a good job of that. Just leave the kids out of it, and that includes UL fans when locals chose another school. If the student athlete comes out and makes negative comments about a program then he or she opens themselves up for such feedback.
well of course, T; i was just funning on the 'hawk post. the "rivalry" has basically been building since lsu started winning games again in the bear's last season of '82. i think the tigers have won a game or two more than 'bama over these 30 games. it amped up when saban got there and you had the former coach thing fanning the flames.
i clerked with a guy in n.o. the summer of '80. a big 'bama supporter/student, who never entertained the thought of making a legal career in n.o., but just had the opportunity to have a fun summer. we became friends, and have stayed in touch all these years. he ended up on the 'bama board of supervisors, or whatever they call it there, and was part of the "search committee" that went out and netted saban. he assures me that 'bama people consider lsu VERY much a heated rival, and with tennessee's plunge, the second most heated behind auburn lately.
Amen.
