    Dude you need to gain a little knowledge and a little history. Opelousas is smaller than Lafayette, St Landry Parish and Opelousas have more history, and were a much larger city and parish until the oil boom of the 1940'd. It is not and will not ever be a suburb of Lafayette.

    Lafayette is the major metropolitan center in the area...Opelousas might be older...but it's a suburb of Lafayette now. Regardless of history...that's what it is now.

    Opelousas-St. Landry Parish is also included in the Lafayette-Acadiana Combined Statistical Area....so...its...a...sub...urb.
