'Straight line winds' cause damage in Acadiana

After a morning of strong winds and pouring rain, the Acadiana area sustained storm damage in several areas.

Port Barre police reported damage to the old Fruit of the Loom building. Sheet metal was strewn across the property. Port Barre police, fire department, and energy provider Entergy responded to the scene.

In Lafayette, drivers going to work began to report that the fireworks stand in front of Single Source Supply, off Interstate 10 and Ambassador Caffery Parkway, sustained major damage. The tent structures covering the firework merchandise have toppled and twisted from the high winds in the storm. One tent even rolling on top of a RV.

On Lake Arthur Avenue in Jennings, police confirmed that the roof of Jennings Fine Jewelry had major damage, as well as cracked cinder blocks in the side of the building.

No injuries were reported in any of these instances.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that the storm was caused by strong "straight line winds."
