I like him at Linebacker as well but I don't recall a whole lot of fumbling out of Qyen. I think he had one but did he have an issue with that this year? I don't think that had anything to do with the move anyhow as it had more to do with his abilities to play LB and give us some speed and depth there in the future. I wonder if we will keep Jackson there as well or possibly move him back to RB.
One things for sure: This coaching staff believes that these are all football players (or, as they call them on the recruiting trail: "athletes") , and they will put their football players in the best position to make plays. I've never seen a coaching staff that's more creative with the way they use their players and less inclined to lock up a player into a single position in all my life. The way he's used people like McGuire, Griffin, Kelly, and others makes me really excited about what's to come for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns.
...any updates on Montrel Carter?
I think it went something like this...
Hud: Whats wrong QG?
QG: I haven't hit anyone in awhile.
Hud: Would you like to play Linebacker?
QG: Will I get to hit people?
Hud: Every play.
QG: Lets do it.
Montrell redshirted this year so you will see him next year. Hopefully he will help us in the return game but that kid needs to put on some weight. I saw him on the sidelines for the bowl game and he looked like he could get crushed out there, especially on punt returns.
My two cents on Griffen. I'm thinking he has possibly had a history of concussion problems. This is why I believe many of the bigger schools didn't court him as a RB out of HS. He definitely got knocked out in the Miss./ Ala. All star game. The guy who did it instantly became the most sought after defensive player in the country. As a LB he will be able to give a lot more concussons than he will risk taking. He is also a beast on Special Teams. I'm thinking he was an all state LB as a sophomore before he became all world at RB.
He is a fast linebacker and a less than fast running back. As I recall that was the book on him during recruiting, but HUD gave him a chance and he apparently saw what the recruiters saw.
No history of the Concussions and it was a kick to the head with the guy running full speed----Been there and was very bell rung from an accidental kick!!!!
The bigger schools did court him but scaled off with him being a severe grades risk. It was widely thought that Qyen would not be eligible out of high school but he was able to kick butt that spring to bring his grades up enough only to flag the NCAA with that improvement which was why there was considerable worry that he would not be cleared to play this past season.
It will be a miracle if Qyen plays football for 3 more years. He's a couple of concussions away from serious problems. I hope the best for him though.
