Thread: 2011 New Orleans Bowl: LOUISIANA (32) SDSU (30)

I heard it being being replayed on Big Dave's show this morning as I was driving back from NOLA. It was a classic and I was darn glad to be in the Superdome to see it live and be able to hear Jay's call of the winning play. Jay's had to call a lot of the bad juju over the years and it's good to hear him be able to call a victory like that. KPEL now has something to replace Mr. Bitter's call of the Acadiana win from a few years ago.

I can't believe that people are complaining about what ESPN calls us. My goodness.

Lafayette. And with basketball on the horizon, its only going to get worse. And after years of trying to get ESPN's attention to the change (as well as AP, USA Today, etc) it may be a good time to change tactics. As ESPN is the world sports
authority, what they say, normally goes.

Mr. Farmer, T-Joe, University Attorney, and anyone else you can think of...Call ESPN, ask when the production meetings for
college football will begin this summer, set an appointment...and fly to Bristol, Conn. Make a presentation in person. Don't
send a fax, or depend on some intern or minimum wage pa to make the determination of the right logo, name,
and scoreboard sig..please no more LaLaf, LafLa, ULouLaf, etc, ESPN.

Much like any other "brand name" our brand, UL, Louisiana, etc. carries a huge value. Every time our teams are called by the wrong name, the brand becomes less valuable. In essence ESPN is costing the university and the athletic department "brand revenue" by not mentioning our athletic teams with the correct identification. That's why I'm suggesting that the University Attorney be present, to protect the rights of the University and the all important brand of the university.

Here in North Carolina, of course, its always UNC. Unless its of an official University nature, then its UNC-Chapel Hill. Read
any news item that concerns a UNC student, UNC is only used after UNC-Chapel Hill is used as the location ID. "UNC-Chapel
Hill student was arrested today after breaking into an atm machine on the UNC campus. UNC security, etc....

Now that we have the gravitas of a bowl win, its time to challenge ESPN and how they refer to the University of Louisiana.
    Great first post.

A school's name is what is repeated over and over... it is what a school is identified by. To think that being called "Lafayette" all night is not a big deal is just naive.

I was too busy taking victory shots and trying to collect myself after what i witnessed saturday into sunday morning until now. That was the most draining, exhausting game ive ever been to/seen. I walked out of the dome with no voice and in a daze.....it was one of the best 24 hours of my life ......it was awesome! :-)

Congrats from San Diego. That was one hell of a game and Louisiana was tough!!!

All respect from here and I am so glad that both teams played so hard and represented our schools.

More than likely that they have more than one set of turf and this is the "New Orleans Bowl" caliber turf. They probably use it for the HS games as well.

I'm waiting for someone to complain about how it's LSU fault that the Superdome wasn't sold out last night. Just enjoy the freaking victory.
