Thread: 2011 New Orleans Bowl: LOUISIANA (32) SDSU (30)

  1. Default Re: ESPN: The UL_Lafayette and Lafayette references were unbelievable last night

It's just lazy lazy sports coverage. The network is to big to care.

They couldn't even get the wrong reference right. "LAYfayette"

That last kick was pretty crazy. I don't know how it showed up on TV, but at the game, it was very slow and wobbly. I actually thought it was tipped, and gave up hope during the 30 second it seemed to take for it to get through the goalposts.

THEN I made an idiot of myself by telling everyone of the miraculous tipped field goal that went 50 yards.

My friends actually let me believe this until Sunday morning, when they told me the kick wasn't actually tipped, it was just a slow, ugly kick. But a slow ugly kick that scores 3 points is better than a clean powerful kick that doesn't, so I'm still happy

A slow ugly 50 yard kick that landed on the endzone tunnel tarp about 15 yards behind the uprights. :-)

I believe we can all agree on this one! I met up with David Faulk while waiting for the kids to get a picture with Bobby Hebert. Took a picture of David with Bobby for him. Found out his daughter taught Bobby's kids in Atlanta. Helped clean out the Rouse's beer aisle a few times. Ate entirely too much food at Deanie's and posed for random pictures in front of every place decorated for Christmas for my mother. Hung out with a good friend that I haven't seen since he moved to Houston. Never made it to any other parties except Champions Square and helped them struggle to keep the beer cold. Still don't have a voice and can barely walk. Still trying to remember the rest and I didn't go out like most of you. Overall assesment, I need to get in better tailgating shape before another bowl game in NOLA.

I contend you subtract the bonus from the fantastic regular season gate (and wins) that actually got UL to the bowl game.

In other words it is a regular season expense not a bowl game expense.

    Default Post your experiences

Thought I'd start a "remembrance" thread... if one has been started the mods can merge

Wow what a great experience. I have been to many Sugar Bowls, just because I love the experience. I have to say this one matched the fun that I have seen as an outsider.... But this time I was not an outsider and it was a great experience

My daughter graduated on Saturday so we did not have hotel reservations until Saturday. However I could not wait that long so I took off Friday and spent the day and evening enjoying the experience... The concert and band competition at the Spanish Plaza was fun... A little dig if I could... The fans and bands all got along well.. Not the cr@p you get when a&m@br fans show up for an event... Then headed into the quarter, had some raw oysters at Felix's.. Talked to some SDSU fans and had a good time...Left at about 11:00 pm and drove back for the graduation..

Got into the Big Easy around 2:30 and the city was buzzing with Cajun fans.... Checked into 3 hotels (we had 11 in our group), one of which was the Marriott.... We wanted to go to the Rouses' for the Pep Rally but the lobby at the Marriott was buzzing with the season highlights and with all the people.. Then the word that the "Cajun Walk" would happen at 5:30 so we decided to hang there... when the players came down the elevator to board the buses it was incredible... BIG TIME incredible... The fan crush and yelling... The players eyes were like saucers... getting to experience this had to be incredible for them... Hud was fired up and the fans were going nuts.... Again this had a BIG TIME Bowl feeling...

Headed to the dome... we took our time and saw so many people we knew... which was tough to believe because it felt like a Saints Sunday with the number of people... Then the Champion Square experience... I have Season Tickets to the Saints games and always make Champions Square pre-game ritual...The number of people exceeded any number I have seen pre-game Saints.... and that says a lot... It was packed with Cajun Fans... Forget about getting close to the band stage and the beer lines were huge..... Again, and forgive me for overusing this phrase.. But another BIG TIME feeling...

The getting into the Dome and seeing the sea of Cajun fans growing... As i said I have seen the SEC crowds and others at the Sugar Bowl... and yes the Terrace was not filled as you would see in those games but the site was very similar to those games... and the crowd was electric..

One thing we do need is a well known chant.... Certainly at the end of the fight song we do the "GO UL" chant... but something like "Its great to be a Florida Gator" chant... like it or not it sounds great when their entire fan base does it.... just sayin

Then the game... My 21 yo son is a student at UL and he was in GAME MODE to say the least... and we had a blast... back and forth the game went... And when SDSU scored with 35 seconds a few in our group sat down and buried their heads in their hands... And I said guys... you have seen this season... We really can do this... And of course we did

The site of the players pouring onto the field reminded me so much of the Saints after Hartley beat the Vikes... in fact my screen saver is a picture of the Saints sidelines just as the field goal is made and they begin to rush the field... Same feeling Saturday night....

Then Bourbon Street.. I was out till 3 am and while not quite as big a crush as post Super Bowl it was packed.... People on the balconies starting some Go UL chants....What a great feeling.....

Thanks Hud... thanks Players... thanks fans..... for a fantastic experience.

I'd love to hear other experiences... Because of graduation I was not able to make all of the events as I would have liked but I certainly crammed a lot into a short period... Lets hear yours

Geaux Cajuns!!!!
One of my LSU friends was texting me the tweets throughout the game. Zach Mettenberger had a good one. "Tim Tebow said a prayer for the UL receivers before the game tonight."

The RCAF party in the Dome from 3:00 to 6:00 featuring Nickel-Beer was great also. The room was packed, the band was on top of their game, everyone was dancing and getting fired up for the game. The Cajun Band and tailgating party at Rouses's that started at 1:00 was also very fun and well done. Every activity we attended on Friday and Saturday, including the party at the Marriott on Friday afternoon, with Jamie Bergeron playing some tunes and featuring the graduation ceremony for the Seniors was great.

I'm thinking about booking rooms today for the big event again next year!!!!!! LOL!!!!!
