  1. UL Tennis Tennis Rankings

Sometime after lunch today, the men's and women's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings will be out.

I would assume with everyone that the Cajuns have coming back, that UL's men's Team will be ranked somewhere in the mid 40's or so. It will be interesting to see where the rest of the conference is. I will post something on this board and the delphi board as soon as I see the rankings.

Season begins January 26th for both the men and the women.

    Good luck and Geaux Cajuns!!!!!!!!

  2. UL Tennis Cajun Netters Ranked!!!!

Well they are out, and I could not have been more accurate, The Cajun Netters are #47 in the preseason rankings.

Here are other schools of interest:

    10--LSU
    34--Middle Tennessee University
    62--South Alabama

Good news I was looking for this, so nothing on the Ladies side?

    Thanks TopSpin

No they were not ranked, but remember where they were coming from, a couple of years ago they could not field a whole team for the conference tournament. Last year they went .500. This year should be even better.

A little more information about our schedule, we have 19 matches scheduled this year, of which 10 of them are vs ranked opponents in the preseason rankings: Here is a list of the matches:

    11 Florida State
    6 Ole Miss
    70 Oregon
    35 Rice
    42 Oklahoma
    39 Miami
    10 LSU
    28 Boise State
    34 Middle Tennessee
    62 South Alabama

We also face 2 of those opponents at home, we have both Oregon and Rice at Home. Nice schedule for Coach McGrath.

On the women's side we play 19 matches as well and of those 4 are vs ranked opponents:

    43 LSU
    74 Southeastern Louisiana
    30 Florida International
    31 South Alabama

We play only SLU at home of our ranked opponents.

Good Luck and Geaux Cajun Netters!!!!!

Not counting the Ragin' Cajuns (ranked) I see 2 ranked SunBelt teams.

Since the Lady Cajuns are not ranked . . .I still count 2 ranked teams.

So which side of the Sunbelt is stronger overall, Mens or Ladies?

Just a little heads up about the men, it appears that UL has rescheduled it men's opener, they were supposed to play Lamar on 1/21, but that match will be rescheduled and UL will play it men's opener vs Southern on Sunday 1/22. Also, something I did not realize, last season we had our #1 player Evghenii Corduneanu, listed as a senior, but it appears he is back on the roster as a senior again this year. I am hoping this is correct, if so we will have our top 5 players returning, including 3 guys who have been ranked at some point in there Cajun careers. Corduneaunu, Singh and Tabak. Then you add Ley and Ellison at 4 and 5 respecively and then we will have to see a battle between newcomers:
Truong, Williams, Domoney and Sophomore Ryan Hess for the number 6 spot. I have a feeling that if I am correct about Evghenii coming back, that this team is loaded and it could be a special year. Tabak, Singh and Corduneanu all can be considered solid number 1's. Also, if you look below only Ley and Corduneaunu are listed as seniors. I do not see Kerri Abaker, listed on the roster and that is a dissappointment, because he had a solid freshman season for the Cajuns last year at the #6 spot. But hopefully some of the newcomers can fill that void.

    Geaux Cajuns.

    Evghenii Corduneanu 5-8 Sr. 3L Kishineu, Moldova/HS No. 85
Arlen Domoney 5-11 Fr. HS Capetown, South Africa
Shaun Ellison 5-10 Jr. 2L Durban, South Africa/Crawford College
Ryan Hess 6-5 So. 1L Lake Charles, La./West Lake HS
Robin Ley 6-4 Sr. 3L Johannesburg, South Africa/Deanalin College
Amanjot Singh 6-0 Jr. 2L Chendigarh, India
Dusan Tabak 5-11 Jr. 1L Serbia, Ugoslavia/Economics Specialized School
Matthieu Truong 5-10 Fr. HS Paris, France
Bradwin Williams 6-0 Fr. HS Johannesburg, South Africa

The men's side of the SBC is better, but we are in a very good ladies conference as well. USA has a stellar team each and every year.

I got the answer to my own question, Evghenni gained an extra year of eligibility. He came to UL as a partial qualifier, and did very well in his classes, and because of the NCAA rule change, as long as he was 80% of his graduation rate, he could get another year.
