Reading Malzahn will make $800K a year at Arkansas State. He wants a head coaching job and has a chance to go back to a state where he has strong ties for a conference contender. It looks like big schools are putting an emphasis on head coaching experience at the college level along with high level responsiblities at a AQ program.. Freeze and Hudspeth had both of those. Although Mahlzan had been a successful offensive coordinator at Arkansas, Tulsa and Auburn he had no college head coaching experience. As we have seen there is a big jump from a coordinator to head coach. If he wants a big gig he has to fill that void in his resume.

That makes some sense to me as I can't figure out why a guy would take such a cut in pay ... my thoughts were something was about to happen with his current job. But he wouldn't even be a candidate here without any prior HC experience ... maybe that has been said to him at these other schools.

He was offered the Vanderbilt job, and a $3 mil/year salary. Obviously, there is something else going on with him. I'm sure that his wife has something to do with not getting some other jobs this year, but there has got to be something behind the scenes at Auburn to make him jump at the Ark. State job, and $500K pay cut. This is bizarre.

I don't see Newt getting involved with that if he's elected. He's going to be WAY TOO BUSY cleaning up all of obama's messes to worry about toolame getting into the Big 12. Toolame's only shot at this is for Cowen to unlock the safe and drop the BIG $$ on 'em.
