Thread: 2006 UL's playoff picture: Taylor, Stokley, Tillman, Delhomme

  1. Default 2006 UL's playoff picture: Taylor, Stokley, Tillman, Delhomme

Historically and by comparison to say a Notre Dame or some other big money school, only a handfull of Ragin' Cajuns have ever made the NFL, but for some reason when they get there they seem to go places.

Randy McClanahan, Virgil Eikenberg, Bill Blackburn, Brian Mitchell, Rafael Septien, Jake Delhomme, and Brandon Stokley, all played in NFL Championship games.

Nice to see mention of McClanahan. Used to love watching a back trying to come around his end. He knocked the ____ out of a lot of people. He really seemed to love the game and played hard.

What would the NFL playoffs be without a Louisiana connection?

This year, the postseason would be minus some key performers if it didn't include players from the Bayou State.

There are four former Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in action as teams head toward Super Bowl XL in Detroit - Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme, Indianapolis wide receiver Brandon Stokley, Pittsburgh cornerback Ike Taylor and Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman.

"Obviously, it's a real plus for us when it comes to recruiting," UL defensive coordinator Brent Pry said. "It's incredible exposure for our program.

"We've talked often in (prospects') homes, particularly of defensive backs. We've had quite a few who've made it."

I probably wouldn't have had the same reaction if the article was on former south Louisiana HS athletes in the NFL playoffs. Then they could have put in a picture any of them.
