Whitt: Man behind UL's success

There are TWO heroes here. Tim Buckley, you are an amazing writer. THANK YOU for what you have done for this program and town in such a short period. Coach Whitt, you are just as amazing. THANK YOU for the vigor you have brought. You saved lives and now you are molding them. The TEAM attitude here is amazing. Not many I's or me's. It's us's and our's. If I were in a battle, I would want you two people in my foxhole. I know I would live to see see tomorrow.

IMO, Buckley needs to be noted for an outstanding job. Parrot set a nice standard while here. Buckley was handed the baton, came in here from another part of the country, new little about UL or the Cajun culture, and just never missed a beat from the get go. I am impressed with the number and quality of the articles he is able to write. Parrot got burned out with the amount of time this job required. If anything, Buckley appears even more deeply entrenched in this job, despite the hours involved. I think we are very fortunate to have had Parrot and now Buckley. This increase in talent level at The Advertiser and timing of their hires has mirrored the coaching hires by UL in basketball and football. The coverage we are now getting is what big time programs get and is an important part of the changing public perception of UL athletics, particularly football, as a big time program.

I have one wish for Buckley. Get a RaginPagin and Twitter account and be more involved with the public. Josh does a FANTASTIC job of this.

Buckley was handed the baton, came in here from another part of the country, new little about UL or the Cajun culture, and just never missed a beat from the get go. Correction: I left the UL beat for the opportunity to spend more time with my family after a serious personal loss. It was my choice and a decision I'll never regret. Then my wife got her dream job in Texas, and I'm back to writing sports again (but more of what I want).

Excuse me for strongly disagreeing with your comment that Buckley is "even more deeply entrenched" in the job. How do you gather that? He's doing a fine job writing stories, but he just started blogging, doesn't tweet, do live chats or shoot video and hardly writes about recruiting.

Personally, I'll be interested to see how he does in the spring with recruiting, basketball, baseball, softball and spring football going on at once. It's the busiest time for the job all year. He hasn't hidden the fact he doesn't like softball, and I don't think readers will like a dip in softball coverage.

I'm with you on this one JP. Tim has barely scratched the surface of EVERYTHING you were doing! So far he has written stories, and maybe a few blogs. Nothing more...
