I often have to wonder... Are we just a bad basketball state? I know schools in Louisiana have had good programs here and there, but with this being a football state it seems that basketball just takes a back seat... Some would say even to baseball.
We should improve once we get into conference. It does not get much easier than playing in the SBC.
Louisiana has had success in the world of college basketball. LSU, Cajuns, Tulane, Louisiana Tech have all won before. Pistol Pete, Bo Lamar and Shaq are a few of the stud college players to play in the state.
The biggest difference lately: The top players from the state (Monroe, Carter, Dunn, etc.) have left to play in the Big East, Big 12 and other conferences. Plus, the caliber of players has dipped recently. All factors in the state's struggles in college basketball for the past few years.
