Thread: Which Ragin' Cajun has had the best Pro Career

  1. #11

    UL Basketball Kim Perrot

Kim Perrot is my choice right now, but some of these careers are still in progress. Starting point guard on several championship teams at the highest level of her sport. Just looking at the number of prospective athletes and very small number of teams and starting roles in the WNBA, it takes a small miracle just to make a roster. To be a starter, you have to be elite. To be a starting point guard on a WNBA championship team several years in a row, you have to be Kim Perrot, because I don't think anyone else has done it.

Jake gets my honorable mention. The number of QBs that have led their team to the Super Bowl is also some improbable fraction when compared to the number of prospectives.

    UL Baseball Ron Guidry

I'm conflicted, even though I voted for Ron Guidry.

I think Ron was the most visible because of the market he played, and the few years where he was possibly the most dominant player in one of the major sports. Cy Young and the gaudy number for those years made him a name throughout the league and the biggest market in sports. They don't put statues outside of this place for any but the most highly thought after in this organization of All Stars.

Andrew Toney "could have been" a possible all star for many years without the injury he suffered, and where that would have taken him past that point is really a mystery.

Kim Perrot was not an WNBA All Star member, but was an All American at USL adn an All Heart member of any team you care to name, and as a result, will always be honored in the hearts of Cajun fans who watched her play and via the "Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award" presented annually by the WNBA.

Brian Mitchell will probably stay number two on the NFL all time yardage list for the forseeable future, but wasn't a name known across all those who follow sports.

One additional thing I found on the web referencing Kim Perrot, which is a long term remembrance to the regard in which she was held.

I wonder if we submitted UL/USL photos for the displays shown there?

    UL Football Brian Mitchell

    Brian Mitchell

I think Charles Tillman may have a great career though. I'm a big Jake fan as well.

As far as careers go at this moment in time I'd vote Brian Mitchell... future hall of famer.

  5. UL Football Damon Mason

I had to vote for Damon Mason he holds the record for most tackles in AFL (Arena Football League) History 727.5 the best in the history of his sport. (not too mention I loved watching that lil bitty dude light people up in the swamp)

Hey Turbine What about Gerald Hebert? I guess the Mets aint the Yankees

  6. UL Football Brian Mitchell

I'm not saying he gets my final vote but how about this for a "bookend" career.

  7. Year 1 (1990): Brian Mitchell, (a rookie) is suddenly inserted at quarterback and completes 50% of his passes while scoring a rushing TD. Because all the QB's were lost, the 1990 Monday night game between the Redskins and Eagle came to be known as the body bag game.

  8. Year 14 (2003): Set a Gaints record with 1,117 kickoff return yards. In the last game of his career he once again found himself playing the quarterback position and rushed the ball 3 times for 19 yards an average of 6.3 yards. Overall in that last game he had 166 all purpose yards.

I'm not saying Marvin Winkler gets my final vote but how about this for a quickie "bookend" career.

By the time Marvin Winkler turned 24 he had an NBA championship ring and an ABA runner up accomplishment on his record.

Marvin only played professional basketball 2 years, and a 1, 2 finish. Not many players can tout a runner up finish and a title for two different teams in two different leagues in just two years of playing.

In 1970-71 Marv played for the NBA Champ Milwaukee Bucks only scoring 8 points but since it came in a total of 14 minutes of play it comes out to an average of 23 points per 40 minutes of play.

In 1971-72 Marv played for the ABA runner up Indiana Pacers scoring 40 points in a total of 155 minutes of play it comes out to an average of 10 points per 40 minutes of play.

Not a bad pro career. Not a long lasting career, not personally super productive, but he sure seemed to be in the right place at the right time. I can only imagine that if he started out on a bad team his career might have lasted longer.

Pretty good selection. Toney was an impact player with the Sixers, helping lead them to an NBA championship. I just think the foot problems ended his pro career too early. Main reason I'd go with Brian Mitchell.
