When Rob Phillips left, his assistant was the interim so to speak strength coach. This guy was brought in about midway last season.

I know alot of players had injuries under Coach Phillips watch, but coach Wingerter once told me that he was the best coach on the staff while he was here. He had a big time resume.

This guy is the guy we need. His training regimine made a ton of difference. I also like what our DC did this year. We gave up a lot of yards, but we lead the nation in pick 6's & changin positions with Lance Kelly was genius. There was a lot of out of the box thinking done with this team last year, & the head coach couldn't have done all of it.

As good as his resume is, alot of the players he coached at Miami are constantly getting hurt in the NFL today. Shockey, McGahee, Gore, Andre Johnson, Vilma

I completely agree. Its pretty obvious that the players on the team today are in better shape than the past few years. I just don't believe that it was all Coach Phillips fault guys got hurt all the time. Worked at Tennessee, Miami, and the Cleveland Browns. You can't tell me he worked at those big time programs and didn't know what he was doing. But again, the results that we are all witnessing don't lie.

So if we go after a young guy, say maybe a few to several years younger than HUD & offensive minded, do we offer competetive money to his support staff & "suggest" that he keep some of them around especially on the defensive side? I mean they know the local recruiting area by now & have automatic connections in Mississippi through the players they have. We also have some commits to think about.

I don't like speculating when the "life after Hud" hasn't even happened. But, I've been dranken and my mind is pure. We are not to assume a crusty rusty dusty "you may remember when" guy to replace Hud. We still need the same credentials we demanded our AD target as we did with Hud. Those would be:

High energy
Excellent communicator
Early to mid forties
Southern Regional recruiting ties
HC collegiate experience at a lower division
No one that's been a legacy ancient assistant at a BCS program
Makes the AD say "this guy has the X factor, but he agitates me"

Anyhow, I might go for a different formula once we're in a more established situation. But, we are in a "establishing" situation and still need similar skills that Hud brings to the table. If it goes down that we have to find a new captain, one of our biggest issues right now is to look at "retention bridges" within the existing staff. We need to keep the veterans thinking "UL football" and our recruits thinking likewise.

We'll deal with this when and if it happens, but like I said, I been dranken and I'm pure. Pearls of wisdom come easy tonight.

I got ya on the speculating & I aint at all about hatin. But there is a big difference between insurrection & self- protection. Based on the understanding of wanting HUD to stay with all our hearts, but having to plan for the hereafter to reap salvation, we need to be taking these kinds of things into account. We also have a whole slew of YOUNG talented football players we need to hold onto. Finding someone who can keep the balance & discipline that has been established in tact, will take great skill.
