Thread: Leach to Wazzu

    Default Leach to Wazzu

    It is being reported that Washington State has hired Mike Leach. The PAC-12 North just got a lot stronger.

    Pullman Washington is somewhat close to Cody Wyoming. I guess he is going home.

    Great hire for WAZZU. This is a COACH. If you are a pampered recruit go someplace else, he will demand you give your all even if your name happens to be James, and your daddy has connections.

    Wait, you mean he didn't pick TULANE?!?! HOW COULD HE DO THAT TO THOSE 50* GREEN WAVE FANS!?!?

  5. Default Re: Leacdh to Wazzu

    Well he would have gone, except he could only get 11 waivers of those high academic standards a year, and over a 5 year span which probably most kids do, red shirt, that is 55 players of the 85 allowed.

    And if you believe Tulane fans they were offering a lot more money to him. Which should give everyone an idea of what he thought his chances of success were going to be.

    You will now hear Tulane fans talking about how they will get Hudspeth like it is a done deal. They can definitely pay the higher rent if you believe the numbers being tossed around. Thing is it will be a pay day with a dead end on it.

    Tulane needs to just quit...no one wants to coach there. The Big 12 will never come calling. The crowds will never show up. The stadium will never get built. The administration will never support athletics. It's just sad.

    You know it is not a dead end coach university:

    Mac Brown, Tommy Bowden, and others have gotten much bigger jobs while serving time in football hell.

    To date I know of no UL coach that has move up from being a head coach at UL.

    If I had a nickel for everytime Hud was supposed to be announced as Tulane's coach...I'd be a rich man.

    Their past isn't reflective of their future IMHO.

    This was posted on the Tulane forum and is pretty telling.

    I am gonna write a book about this whole process when its all said and done. But I'm done for now folks, as i must run silent and deep. Good luck with the new coach!

    How about this for a start?

    Chapter 1: Wave goes 12-0 and finishes #7 in poll
    Chapter 2: Tulane names new Prez during the season
    CHapter 3: 12-0 coach bolts; obvious successor passed over by relative unknown, also brother of big donor; Prez makes first BIG Athletic decision;
    Chapter 4: Prez brings in own AD
    Chapter 5: Prez and AD announce TulaneModel based on quaint notion of the 1970s student-athlete;
    Chapter 6: Wave struggles, but puts together a winning season, wins Hawaii Bowl;
    Chapter 7: Prez starts Athletic Review which causes Tulane to re-think D1 Athletics; alumni win out thanks to insider tip at crucial time;
    Chapter 8: Tulane resumes football, but recruiting falls off;
    Chapter 9: Katrina hits, Prez uses football as symbol of continuity; players play hard but are worn out by constant travel and temporary facilities;
    Chapter 10: Tulane re-opens, has limited funds to fund athletics;
    Chapter 11: As Tulane recovers, BofA and Prez refuse to fund Athletics to competitive levels;
    Chapter 12: Tulane football loses coach, hires cheap re-tread;
    Chapter 13: Cheap re-tread fails to coach team up; Tulane signs extension after 4th year; OC leaves;
    Chapter 14: Tulane hits new low, fans don't show, re-tread leaves after going 2-5, leaving team to OL coach;
    Chapter 15: Announces coach search; team finishes 2-11; obvious choices approached (?);
    Chapter 16: It is revealed that Tulane Prez wants to spend BIG $$ to bring in high-profile guy and beef up Department;
    Chapter 17: Obvious successor in 1998 turns down job for less money (rumor) at BCS school; search continues;
    Chapter 18: Still no announcement as it becomes obvious to everyone (except those in charge and to fellow sycophants) that Tulane presents high risk career opportunity due to Athletics reputation of Prez, Mickey Mouse-status of Athletic Dept., limited resources and alumni indifference and mistrust;
    Chapter 19: Tulane's once-in-a-generation opportunity to join a BCS conference (and big ROI on Athletics) takes severe hit because of inability to land Whale of a coach;
    Chapter 20: Prez is 65, refuses to retire, still heavily involved;
    Chapter 21: Somebody write the ending

    Man their prez sure sounds familiar..............Zee maybe you can let the Greenies borrow your photo editing software.

    Tulane should hire Bad Advice Cat for their coaching search...
