    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Sunday's headlines

I heard (on the radio) that some players wanted to party last night and didn't play. We're losing and their out partying, something's not right here.

They were not out partying. They violated some minor team rules so they sat. If you want my opinion, the General is showing some disipline here. You have to mold your players and set examples for the rest of your team and your program that you are tryin to build. You cant let idiots walk all over you and disrespect your program. But those guys sat because it was Lee's call. This has nothing to do with partying last night or anything illegal. This is coming from a reliable and well informed source, so stop the assumptions.

At this rate, even if we win the Sunbelt tourney, we will be lucky to get a seed higher than a 15. Of course, at this rate, we will be lucky to win 10 games. :-(

Yup, good thing we have ms back on the team. I thought he was only to be allowed one screw up (along with having a 10th chance) when joining the team!!!! We do not need bums like him on this team. It's past time for him to get outta here!!!!

Yes, Lee said so him self, these kids need to be taught about how to become young productive men in our society, and their having to sit is just that, a lesson among men!!

The General is doing the right things, MS and company cost us this game tonight by their selfish off the court irresponsibilities!!!!!!!!

    DaddyCajun

ps Give them some time we will as a team and especially as a program will be allright. We could very well be 0-8 and still have a good year!!!

its fans like you guys that make me so mad, you are all on players and teams asses when they are winning but you guys jump ship when they lose, im sick and tired of fans like you, why cant you support teams when they win AND LOSE, i just dont get it, maybe it is because im not from lafayette but i really get mad when people jump on the band wagon, the team is going to be fine, they just need some time to learn and play together, as for the guys that violated team rules, let coach decide what to do with them. Im getting sick of fake fans like you guys.

How about this scenario. Let’s say they didn't do anything really selfish, or they didn't do anything that 99% of the coaches in this country would not have forgiven. But given the recent history of the program coach Lee saw a trend he did not want to escalate.

In other words what if the suspended guys were not being so much "selfish" as they were being lackadaisical and if you are going to be lackadaisical off the court you WILL be lackadaisical ON the court so lackadaisical people will not play.

I think the message is coach Lee wants 100% from his players 100% of the time.

IF they get this message (and I think the will) they will FLY through life, and things they now look at as hard will come easy for them.

  9. UL Basketball Short-handed Cajuns not enough

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun basketball team had enough problems already. They didn't need Michael Southall and two of their better shooters in street clothes.

Southall, Ed Turner and J. T. Fields were suspended for what coach Robert Lee said were violations of team rules, and the rest of the Cajun squad couldn't quite cover their absence as Charlotte escaped with a 67-62 victory Saturday in UL's "Back to Blackham" home opener.

The 49ers (5-3) hit on 12-of-24 3-point shots, including three in the game's first seven minutes in building a double-figure lead, and the Cajuns (0-4) never caught up in dropping their first home opener since 1996.

The Cajuns only played six players significant time with the absence of regular starters Southall and Turner, and Charlotte took advantage.
"Those guys just made shots," Lee said. "We'd watched video of their games and they'd been struggling shooting the ball like we have, but tonight they hit some big shots. In the second half we adjusted, and we had a chance in the last two minutes."

Few thought that would be the case for the short-handed hosts, especially after Charlotte used a 10-0 run to take a 62-48 lead on De'Angelo Alexander's right-wing three-pointer with 7:06 left.

His team had three prominent players on the sidelines in street clothes, suspended from the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun basketball team for unspecified indiscretions.

But Robert Lee didn't want to hear anything about giving up a game to prove a point.

"I thought we were going to win the game," Lee said shortly after the Cajuns' 67-62 loss to Charlotte Saturday night. "I thought the guys that we had would come out and play hard, and with two minutes left we had a chance."

Not a lot of the disappointing 3,209 crowd for "Back to Blackham" night gave UL a chance, once they got inside and saw Michael Southall, Ed Turner and J. T. Fields not dressed. The threesome were suspended by Lee for violations of team rules, rumored to be missing team functions and class time, and those suspensions might not be just for Saturday's home opener.
"It depends on those guys," Lee said. "More than likely they won't play the next game, either."

That would be the Dec. 11 contest at Texas-El Paso, when the Cajuns (0-4) will look to snap their season-opening loss streak following a short break for fall term finals. Lee, though, was more concerned about other issues.

"When you put on that jersey, you have to represent it well and have pride in that jersey," he said following the game. "This program is bigger than winning one game. We're trying to help these young men have success in their lives. That's what this suspension is about."
