Off the top of my head, there was Joe Deforest and Monken from Oklahoma St, Garrick MacGee (sp?) from Arkansas, and some guy who runs the triple option, Georgia Southern coach maybe??

    You didn't ask me, but...

If Mullen goes to Penn State, I think there's a 90% chance Hud goes MSU. So the real issue here is what are the chances Mullen goes to Penn State? I have no idea on that.

If MSU is out of the picture: If Fedora goes somewhere (Kansas or Ole Miss or wherever), I think there's a 45% chance Hud goes to Southern Miss. Better program, much bigger pay, in Mississippi, and could springboard him to a top 20 coaching job in 3 years if he's highly successful.

    Flip a coin, basically.

Anyone in the UL family that thought we were the final destination for Hudspeth are absolutely out of their minds. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he would take a Miss State or Ole Miss HC job in a flash... among a few others. I was only hoping they wouldn't come calling so soon.

If Hudspeth accepts an offer from another mid-major... that will sting. There are no openings among "area" mid-majors that are attractive jobs IMO. Currently, there are only desperate programs that will pay a buttload to get him. If we offer within 70% ish of their offer and he takes theirs... I'll cut him down to the bone. If they double the best offer we can come up with... I won't like it one bit... but I will get over it pretty quick... and just go get another solid hire.

The very difficult situation for us is in figuring out what raise we can reasonably offer (we've got to consider future raises and bonuses, staff salaries, etc). No one on here knows, so I don't want to hear it. There is no way of "us" knowing what UL can afford. I will say this... there is a figure that is beyond our ability... and there is one that is beyond Hudspeth's worth. We need to get aggressive about keeping him... but not stupid.

We aren't likely to have good meaningful conversations about this for several weeks... or whenever the hormone levels re-adjust in our male fans... whichever comes first.
"Under no circumstances"? Of course not. But, the bottom line is that he was scarcely finished with the regular season before he interviewed for another job. Am I the only one who listened to this coach and thought he was about more than a paycheck?

I find no fault in people whose moves are dictated by the call of the almighty dollar, if that's how they represent themselves. But Hud never represented himself that way. I took him as someone who saw a Louisiana program with potential; a program he wanted to be a part of. So, for him to talk around the Ole Miss rumors only to later interview, rather than being frank about his intentions? Well you tell me...

Good ADs are always ready to make a coaching move, so I believe Scott is already prepared if something opens up. The possibility of both Southern Miss and Mississippi State opening up should be of some concern given Hud's ties and connections there, but nothing has happened yet. I'd think Ole Miss has a new coach in the next few days, either Fedora or Freeze. Fedora is also in play at Kansas, and Freeze is also in play at Memphis. Very fluid situation. Makes my head hurt. Odds that Hud leaves? Not in favor of the Cajuns if it's Miss St, 50-50 if it's USM.

Can you remember this many coaching changes in a single year in college football?

We have no clue what was said in that interview. For all we know, HUD could have taken the interview out of respect and politely told them he was not interested.

Compliment him on his sleeveless American Flag t-shirt and his Dale Jr. commemorative plate collection.
