Well he made the point that Hud would not go anywhere with Mullen and that we could "take that to the bank". Why would he never work with him again, ever, if it was because they had such a great relationship? Maybe I'm missing something, but what you are saying, and what he said dont add up. Not that its any of my business

I think we all just need to step back and calm down a little. HUD may be here next year or he may not but let's be rational. Sure, we all want HUD to stay here for several years and help build this program up but the reality is that may or may not happen. If he leaves I'm sure there are plenty of candidates who see what we have here and could step in and take the torch. I would hate to "start over" with a new coach but that's the reality of being a small Division I program.

I personally think he won't get a high profile coaching position yet because his resume doesn't warrant it at this point in his career. He has done well on the D-II level and had one good year with us, that's it. I don't want anyone to think I am downing him but these are the facts not opinions. Ole Miss and Mississippi State are hard sells in the SEC because they historically aren't the powerhouses of the conference. I'm not saying the opportunity might not present itself elsewhere for him but I don't think he has done enough to be the leading man at either. I know if I am doing the hiring at Miss State, Ole Miss or Penn State I say he is somewhat of a gamble that can't be made at this point in his career and where those programs are at respectively.

Let's be positive and if he leaves he leaves. We'll then be able to sit back and discuss all of the coaches who would love the opportunity to take over our program.

But realistically... what is a coach supposed to say? "I will under no circumstances consider any other offer?" If a coach says this they are either an idiot or a liar.

Anyone in the UL family that thought we were the final destination for Hudspeth are absolutely out of their minds. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he would take a Miss State or Ole Miss HC job in a flash... among a few others. I was only hoping they wouldn't come calling so soon.

If Hudspeth accepts an offer from another mid-major... that will sting. There are no openings among "area" mid-majors that are attractive jobs IMO. Currently, there are only desperate programs that will pay a buttload to get him. If we offer within 70% ish of their offer and he takes theirs... I'll cut him down to the bone. If they double the best offer we can come up with... I won't like it one bit... but I will get over it pretty quick... and just go get another solid hire.

The very difficult situation for us is in figuring out what raise we can reasonably offer (we've got to consider future raises and bonuses, staff salaries, etc). No one on here knows, so I don't want to hear it. There is no way of "us" knowing what UL can afford. I will say this... there is a figure that is beyond our ability... and there is one that is beyond Hudspeth's worth. We need to get aggressive about keeping him... but not stupid.

We aren't likely to have good meaningful conversations about this for several weeks... or whenever the hormone levels re-adjust in our male fans... whichever comes first.

Well said. Now is NOT the time for paranoia and hysteria based on RUMORS of what may or may not be going on behind the scenes. I know it's nearly 3 weeks until our bowl game, and that leaves a lot of time for us fans to fret and worry over a ton of "what if's". It is somewhat interesting to see what is going on on the coaching carousel, especially some scenarios that could heavily impact us. But until something more concrete comes out, I think it best to focus on who we might be playing on Dec. 17 and what our recruiting needs are. Oh - - - and uniform colors, band song selections, name issues, and other assorted well-worn threads! LOL...

Don't discount Mullen leaving for Penn State, similar to the reasoning why Meyer is now at Ohio State. Better chance to win in that league (for a storied program, regardless of the current scandal)=better job security.
