Keep student tickets free. I went to every game, rain or shine, when we were terrible, when I was a student. We need a strong, full and loud student section more than we need the small amount of money that would bring in.

I agree, keep the students free! (sounds like a campaign slogan)
At least while there is plenty of room for the students, I would like it to be free to attend; they need to generate the spirit!

Plus, is we were to have our way, there would be a student assessment added on to their tuition to help out our athletic budget - that will add more value to the "free" ticket!

No offense J. but this is part of the reason the school couldn't pay a coach the whole time. I am not part of the student assessment crowd even though I haven't gone to school there. Looking at the other schools in this conference & their average attendance, it is very self-evident that doing this is no way to organically build your fan base. The students should have to pay a part though. 10 bucks a game isn't going to kill anyone & if someone has to pay something to get into the game, they are going to be a hell of a lot more likely to be spirited & feel ownership. Besides, I know people who have been getting in for free on other people's student tickets as long as their's been a program. That is shameful & pathetic, but it's done by people who complain all the time, but won't pay their way.

If you are not offering something that is percievced to be of great value, then you must have give aways to "try" to get people in the door. For us to get great coaches with great staffs & keep them, there should be revenue increases all the way around.
Instead of just increasing season ticket prices, there should be minimum donations made by season ticket holders for thoses. People who get chairback seats should have to place a minimum donation of say $250-$400 to the RCAF to get those seats.
People who get other seats should have to pay a minimum of $100-200 for other season tickets. This money can go directly to coaching staffs & not have to go through the political filter of being vetted to every politically correct cause on school property. All none student walk up tickets could certainly be raised to somewhere between $20-25. In today's world these are not unreasonable prices.

Ok. Thanks for the update. I remember getting in free when I was a student, but that was during the Baldwin era and first year of Bustle. I thought maybe we were now charging something like $5 or $6 for a student ticket.

But even better. All a student would have to fork over is $5 for a ticket. Why would that little money, IF we continue winning, discourage student attendence?

Also, here we are usuing average attendence to calculate the extra money from ticket sales, but if student tickets remain free, than those money figures thrown about on this board diminish.

I'm very good with students believing they get into all athletic events for free. I want the student athletic assessment to be handled correctly so it passes. We need a predictable revenue stream out of the assessment. Taking the direction of directly charging students for admission will undoubtedly cut down on student participation. That is a bad idea. It sounds good on the surface... but it's a bad idea overall. We need to get the assessment passed.

The 250 k is not so! It is a function of the formula for funding athletics. The 250 k can be accomplished depending on the amount of total monies being spent although there is a limit of athletic expenditures within amy University of La system athletic program!! Yes ancillary monies are part of the formula as well and helps to accomplish the goal of a higher salary structure.

Agree. I too want to see the assessment for athletics. Hopefully we get to the point where the number of student "tickets" become allocated on a first come/first served basis. That would mean we have a product people want to see, and are paying for. Essentially we set aside a specific number of student seats (pick a number; 5K, 7K......), and sell everything after that. I'm sure we wouldn't be the first school to have such a set-up.

Question: how is it handled now? Do students simply walk up to the gate, flash the ID, and go in?

Here is my novel idea, instead of it being called a student assesment for athletics. Why don't we call it a student ticket fee. Students are to pay with there tuition a certain fee in order to get into every game free of charge. Have this voted on by the students to allow an increase in tuition to pay for the student tickets. 30$ per student @ 18K is $540K. Not sure if it would fly but I say it is worth a shot.

Students pay a fee and do not get in for "free". At this time no additional amount should be put on them to get into a football game where there are thousads of empty seats. I would however; move them to something less than the best seats in the house, and create chairback section there.

Sticker shock. We should increase the cost of seats including adding a seat fee for sections besides the ones currently being charged. Just a more gradual increase than 100% in one year. The fee should be for the RCAF or RaginCajun Club. Those funds can be used to supplement the coaching salaries beyond the states limit.

Check it out folks both ASU, and WKU have base salary less than HUD and they seem to be doing OK. That is not to say we do not need to improve, only that it is about spending wisely.

If we are raising one and not the other, raise ticket prices before raising license fees. That way, the walk up buyer of a single game ticket will also pay more; if you raise the license fee from $100 to $150, you get $50 extra from every season ticket. If you leave that alone and raise ticket prices by $10, you get and extra $50-60 from every season ticket AND and extra $10 on every walkup ticket.. Much better deal.
