Don't let the lack of conference affiliation fool you- this is only a temporary problem.

It's truly sad. When this question was asked, Tech never came to my mind. They probably were and could be a substantial rival. I would like both of us in the same good conference set up, acceptable to both, and slugging it out.

Not to mention Karl Malone just dropped a couple million in football and basketball.

McNeese would be a great rivalry again if not for their 1AA status. The Cajuns are going to be in for a fight this year...it will be disasterous if UL loses. McNeese competes for a national championship year in and year out; they do more with less than almost anyone.

Go ahead now complain and argue over my post. _
How many national championships games has McNeese St. played in? No arguing, just want to know if you know.

I'm not arguing or complaining about your post. I think Tech would be a solid rival. They've put a lot into athletics, and football is just about all that has prospered as of late. The successes you mention came under Bicknell, mostly. I hear a lot of hype, but there is no way to tell whether Dooley was truly a good move. And, I wouldn't want to be in the WAC, and was never happy about being in the Big West.

As for McNeese and our upcoming game. I respect any team that we square up against, including a top level 1AA. But, we have no reason to be scared. If anyone is, I suggest they stay away. I can't wait for the fun to start, me. Geaux Cajuns!

This may have been before your time, but McNeese is and was in the Southland Conference just as Troy was. In fact, Troy and McNeese used to hook it up in some very hard fought, well-played games. Troy's growth as a university eventually propelled it into 1-A football. I think they have represented themselves and the Sun Belt Conference very honorably.

    B) UL would not loan them Ragin' Cajun Uniforms.
    C) McNeese would not wear UL uniforms for a game between the Ragin' Cajuns and McNeese State Cowboys.
    D) The fans would have had a fit.

Instead McNeese players donned UL gear and there was nothing more than a little good natured ribbing.

Hey, I was there in my Blue & Gold and thought I was at the wrong game! HA!
I don't think we played better the rest of the year than we played that night. You guys may not know this, but if we would have won that game..we were taking the uniforms with us and wearing them the rest of the season. It had to be the "unies"

Boy, I can remember when Joe Dumars played that it used to get so loud in Blackham that Glen Duhon, McNeese's coach, used to meet his players in the middle of the court at time outs just so he could HEAR!! Those were great games.

Also, getting to see Andrew Toney play against us in the LC Civic Center when the place used to rock was just great. The outcome for us usually wasn't but the games were classic.

He may not know, but I surely do. I actually attended the games in person. Now, I will clarify that it was in the FCS (Football Championship Series) formerly known as 1-AA.

Cowboy Up, you should know or turn in your blue & gold attire. But the question remains, does he know?

For Troy the answer is easy, Middle Tennessee. We hate those guys and they hate us. But who do you guys hate? And why? _
I am glad you limited it to football because at UL we simply do not have a biggest rival. We have rivals for each sport, and that rivalry either grows or diminishes with the current level of those sports.

Some say McNutt U, but when I went to UL McNutt U was not a rival at all, and only for a short period of time in the original SLC. Some say ULM, and the only reason ULM is big is because to some fans it is a matter of embarrassment to lose to such a bad team. It reminds of where we are and how we got here. All time football rival is without doubt LTU. That is who we measure our success against. The McNutt U fans would love to have us enjoy playing them as much as they do playing us. It just isn't going to happen.

Looks like the Cowpies played in two and lost both.

    PS

NLU/UL@Monroe, La. and Little Rock,Ark. played in one and won it.

LaTe(x) played in one and lost.

You must be a new Student at Troy?

McNeese and Troy have had some great games in years past as well. You guy's were a member of the Southland Conference Football League along with McNeese from 1996 to the year 2000. McNeese was 3-2 vs Troy while in the SLFL together. Intersting enough, McNeese was the SLC champ the years we won the 3 games vs Troy, and Troy was the SLFL Champ the 2 years you beat McNeese. I think the overall McNeese vs Troy record is 5-4 respectivly dating back to the 70's.

Troy and McNeese were always the class of the Southland conference. We kinda miss the competition now that Troy has moved on. And your fans were always great guests and hosts as well. I really enjoyed my trips there.
