You're wasting your time with that one. He's a known flamer and a troll.

None of our fans have any fondess for the current incarnation of the sideline mascot cayenne the pepper. So, his choice of name is a source of irritation, not pride.

McNeese State is in Lake Charles, and a member of the division formerly known as DIAA. They haven't been our rivals since the early 80's.

To answer your question, McNeese State is in Lake Charles, LA, about 70 miles west of Lafayette.

They were our longest and most bitter rival. But, the two teams haven't played in football since 1986......until this year.

This and another thread must have had some posts whacked. I haven't seen any content that would have brought that on... but I guess someone's kid got on here and threw out some words they just learned on the playground.

Anyhow, UL hasn't really set up a solid rival in the Sunbelt for football. We probably like ULM the least, so far, but that isn't a "great rivalry". McNeese was an old rival from many years past. There is still a great deal of tention left over.

We are looking to make South Carolina and/or Tennessee a rival next year...

I know what once was, and I will never say never (I'll leave that to Jay . . . or is that zero chance? ) however if UL and McNeese were still "major" heated rivals . . .

    A) McNeese would not forget their basketball uniforms.
    B) UL would not loan them Ragin' Cajun Uniforms.
    C) McNeese would not wear UL uniforms for a game between the Ragin' Cajuns and McNeese State Cowboys.
    D) The fans would have had a fit.

Instead McNeese players donned UL gear and there was nothing more than a little good natured ribbing.

UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Who Do You Consider to Be the Biggest Rival?

    To All,

All of you are way off. With all do respect to the great games between UL and McNeese, I still remeber playing Terry Bradshaw & Louisiana Tech in McNasby Stadium. We beat them two out of three years I was an undergraduate at UL. Check out your history -We have played LaTech more than anybody in this state and they are still our biggest rival - no question!

Don't let the lack of conference affiliation fool you- this is only a temporary problem.

It may be a rivalry for you but look if you are a cajun fan between 1 years old and 28 years old it is not a rivalry.

My point is true, McNeese may have been a rivalry back in the day, but it just is not anymore.

I love nothing better than beating Western in basketball, south al in baseball and ? in football (just trying to compete right now in football)

As a season ticket holder and regular attendee I'd say North Texas, Middle Tennessee, ASU and Troy are our biggest football rivals currently. No hate involved just good programs we need to beat.

    VERY INTERESTING

Had the Big West blossomed UL and Tech would have continued to blossom into a great rivalry...Tech has moved (although struggling as of late) into an echelon above the Cajuns---Can't wait to hear all of you whine about that statement...Sorry, but they are investing the money, on TV more, they have gotten signature wins (let's face it the A & M game was a long time ago), and they play in a better conference. Not to mention Karl Malone just dropped a couple million in football and basketball.

McNeese would be a great rivalry again if not for their 1AA status. The Cajuns are going to be in for a fight this year...it will be disasterous if UL loses. McNeese competes for a national championship year in and year out; they do more with less than almost anyone.

Go ahead now complain and argue over my post.
