Thread: Rivalries Make Sports Interesting

Ask this question on the LaTech BB and you'd see a similar response to us as their rival. Many feel they have moved on and want regional rivalries with the likes of So.Miss, Tulane, SMU, etc. Seems as they are more "desperate" for a CUSA affiliation than we are; but at the same time see us, NT, even Troy as potential hurdles in the next go-round of conference moves.
If they consider ULM a rival, then we as a university, and athletic program have lost a lot of ground.

ULM is not on an academic level with us.
ULM is not on an athletic level with us.
ULM is not in a growth area of the state.
ULM just came off life support.
ULM sole use to us is our w---re to keep football in the Sun Belt.

Until we beat ULM two years in a row I wouldn't say their not a rival in football, remember they beat us 3 YEARS in a row. Sure we destroyed them this year, but that's only 1 of 3.

I think we see the issue here is really how you personally define a rival. I think a rival is someone you play on a regular basis (doesn't matter if they're in the same conference or not), and is also someone whom you hate to lose to.

ULM we play every year in football, and once they join the sunbelt in every other sport, we'll play them every year as well. BTW, I HATE losing to ULM.

    Just my .02 cents

    God Bless

04, 05 were extremely close. 05... a missed fg, and a td called back spelled our doom. We beat the livin cra p out of em up and down the field.

Last year we called off the dogs early in the 4th or we would have dropped 70 on em....

    ulm@littlerock, not a rival.

This year, if Ricky backs off......I'll personally ask for his resignation.

this year I want them to know it will NEVER happen again and that they should be glad they got lucky a few times.

    pound them into the ground...

I HATE to lose to any I-AA team, but that doesn't mean that all 50-ish of them are our rivals.

yea i would like to see a steady rivalry with troy, they seem to have a decent program, talked to a few people from there recently, they seem to have good fans, would make a good rivalry, but i dont feel i can hate troy like i hate other schools we play

Well I think Troy will become our greatest rival, we have always been alot of competition between the two schools just from the past two years.

LOST IN FOOTBALL, CAME BACK WON IN FOOTBALL LAST YEAR, BASKETBALL THEY WIN AT THE CAJUNDOME, END UP BEATING THEM IN THE TOURNAMENT. THEN IN BASEBALL TAKING 2 AWAY FROM THEM, AND THEM END UP WINNING THE CONFERENCE.

So I mean in the next couple of years it will end up being really close in all of the sports and I have to say that they have ended up giving us the most competition in our conference. So I see a Rival between UL and Troy in the next couple of years. I see it happening in the next 2 to 5 years.
