I'd guess those who voted for ULM as the rival are either recent grads or current students. Understandable. The SunBelt has opened the door to ULM as our new conference mates, and let's face it, we don't want to lose this game.

Those of us who were in school back "in the day" fondly remember games vs. LaTech on a yearly basis; not to mention McNeese. Those were great times and fierce rivalry games. To a great degree (mostly football) we have moved on WRT McNeese (D-1A vs D-1AA). Ditto for LaTech with their move to the WAC. Personally I'm glad to see the addition of the McNeese game next year - should be fun. And perhaps some day in the not so distant future we can rekindle the rivalry with Tech should we end up in a conference together again.

Ask this question on the LaTech BB and you'd see a similar response to us as their rival. Many feel they have moved on and want regional rivalries with the likes of So.Miss, Tulane, SMU, etc. Seems as they are more "desperate" for a CUSA affiliation than we are; but at the same time see us, NT, even Troy as potential hurdles in the next go-round of conference moves.

    I thinks its different for different sports;

    Basketball Western Kentucky
    Baseball South Alabama
    Football Louisiana Tech

If they consider ULM a rival, then we as a university, and athletic program have lost a lot of ground.

ULM is not on an academic level with us.
ULM is not on an athletic level with us.
ULM is not in a growth area of the state.
ULM just came off life support.
ULM sole use to us is our w---re to keep football in the Sun Belt.

Until we beat ULM two years in a row I wouldn't say their not a rival in football, remember they beat us 3 YEARS in a row. Sure we destroyed them this year, but that's only 1 of 3.

I think we see the issue here is really how you personally define a rival. I think a rival is someone you play on a regular basis (doesn't matter if they're in the same conference or not), and is also someone whom you hate to lose to.

ULM we play every year in football, and once they join the sunbelt in every other sport, we'll play them every year as well. BTW, I HATE losing to ULM.

    Just my .02 cents

    God Bless

04, 05 were extremely close. 05... a missed fg, and a td called back spelled our doom. We beat the livin cra p out of em up and down the field.

Last year we called off the dogs early in the 4th or we would have dropped 70 on em....

    ulm@littlerock, not a rival.

This year, if Ricky backs off......I'll personally ask for his resignation.

I HATE to lose to any I-AA team, but that doesn't mean that all 50-ish of them are our rivals.
