I agree, Scott was simply stating the obvious: "If Hud wants to go to a SEC program we can't compete and know it is a better move for the man. If an opponent on our level wants to lure him away it's going to be a fight that we're prepared for."
Scott and the University know what we can and can't do. The old regime only knew what we couldn't and what they wouldn't do. It all comes down to dollars and cents, it always does.
+10!!!!
I must admit that I am critical of the "new" fans they are critical as well, it's a two way street. We should just try and put it all behind us and come up with ways to raise more money. Why not an annual "celebrity" golf tournament with former UL players and those with ties to professional athletes to benefit the RCAF. Surely Jake, Stokley, HUD, Brian Mitchell, Tillman, etc... could round up a few athletes for an event like this. Don't crucify me for this statement but LSU has fundraiser's which seem like on a weekly basis and year round. Ticket prices should be increased by a minimum of $5/ticket by next year, tailgating spots should be raised and parking inside the Cajun Field area should have a fee attached. That's how you get all of the average joe's to increase their donations to the school without them realizing it or having to empty their penny bank once a year. Revenues could easily be raised by $1 million per year in football just by doing this. Once renovations are complete the suites and boxes will bring close to the same if not more.
Those wells that we constantly tap need relief and don't want to feel like they're carrying the university on their back. Plus, the economy isn't at an ideal place right now to be asking those guys for more whether we think they can afford it or not. Hell, make the beer a little cheaper and make the line flow faster and I will single handedly contribute a nice sum!
Just wondering who are the REALLY Wealthy dudes in the area---Who are the ones that help athletics and who does NOTHING!!!!
The article is a clear study in contrasts.
I don't know if Scott let Hud out of his contract or if it was never in there but it is clear that 'Ole Miss sought and received permission to speak with Hudspeth.' and that "we'll do everything we can to help him get the job."
Then you have Nick Saban promoting Kirby Smart, It's not in the article so I don't know if he is actaully interviewing. but (like Hud) his regular season is over.
Then you have Fedora who isn't interviewing because his season is still underway, and he says he is focused.
Then you have the AD at ASU on Freeze who still has a game to play. "Requests by any institution to speak with Coach Freeze during this week have not and will not be granted." Freeze said "We want to minimize distractions and finish this outstanding season strong."
It will be interesting to see how all these coaches handle interest after their regular season is over.
