Thread: Louisiana will fight to keep Hudspeth

Increase ticket prices now. Use the extra revenue to renegotiate Hud's contract and increase his base (and up his buyout clause).
Our ticket prices are rediculously low. Look at the price of the bowl tickets. Our ticket prices should be closer to that than what we currently charge.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Miss St. coach, Mullen, is considered a strong candidate for Penn St?

It is not proper "AD" speak.

It is a post game comment in the 1st quarter.

Scott wants this job to remain attractive if we lose Hud. It's the only way to make sure we can replace him with another young, hungry coach. It's the nature of the beast, Scott is a smart guy. He knows what he's doing here.

    Absolutely right

You don't have to come close to saying what Scott said to accomplish everything you are attributing to his words.

The inadvertant message he is sending out is we want temporary coaches, and we would never dream of putting a buyout clause in a contract.

This is a D1 program not 1aa, this is not how you promote the HC position and make it desirabe for future coaches.

There is a buyout in his contract and it goes down every year.

    That is the right message.

"we'll do everything we can to help him get the job" does not fit with the logic of having a buyout clause.

Thinking outside of the box here, but Mark Hudspeth will not be the coach here if we ever get the program to the level that we want it to be. Larger buyout clauses may provide needed funds to make the next hire. I'm not saying that anyone wants Coach Hud to leave now, but you want to make the job attractive to the next guy once it becomes open, and realistically thinking, like I said in an earlier post in this thread (comparing to Boise St), there will probably be at least 2 more hires before the program could get to that level.

I don't have any problem with what Farmer said. It is the right thing to say. If there is a job that Hud wants, especially in the SEC, and we are in no position to compete, then support the guy. If he stays, he knows he is around people that want him, and also respect him. Farmer is taking the high road, and I appreciate him doing just that.
