Tough to know exactly what's going to happen. Everything Hud has said publicly is that he's happy here, but it's clear given his personality that he has dreams of moving up the coaching ladder in the future. If that happens now will depend on where he sits on the list of candidates for each job and whether those schools can offer him what he'd feel is a better situation than his current position.

Personally, I'd be a bit surprised if he left for a non-SEC job right now. (He grew up near Starkville and has always been a Mississippi State fan, so I believe that's still his dream job.) He's won with a mix of returning players and his own newcomers this season. He built a program while at North Alabama, so I'd expect that he could do it for the Cajuns, too.

This has been a historic season for Cajuns football. And the next few weeks will be huge for the immediate future of the program as we wait to see whether Hud is on the move.

I spoke to HUD's wife after the game & she says she is staying Lafayette, she loves it there.

My thinking exactly. He isn't going to be looking just at money. He will want to go somewhere that gives him a better chance to get to the SEC if he doesn't make it there straight away. Tulane is a dead end job. A private school with an admin that can't be viewed as friendly towards athletics.

Memphis has seen its day pass. USM could be a concern. A solid program in his backyard that will give him a very good payday. It wouldn't take much to punch them into the top twenty in the country.

Of course we still really don't know how big the upside is to staying right here at UL. Recruiting rich area and he can still pull from Mississippi as well. We have just begun our journey and the only way is up.

Sounds like the Hudspeth marriage is shaky. Keep us posted.

    Just kidding...

Hud saw something in Lafayette...he knew he could win here. He did. So far. Let's say he looks at Ole Miss, Tulane, Memphis...does he see the ability to win in any of those teams? Does he see the combination he saw in UL in any of those programs? Ole Miss is the only job I would say he would look past all of those factors because it's the major leagues of college coaching right now. The SEC West. Now if Fedora got poached by someone...Southern Miss would be the program I would say fits Hud's medium of I can really win and succeed here. If Fedora stays...and Ole Miss goes with someone else...I see no other programs that fit's his job requirements. This is my humble opinion...I could be wrong.

Agreed! And he will prove it. By that time, our program should attract another high potential coach that will continue the success.

I am sure he will get a raise next year. There should be something built into his contract for going to a bowl game. Most contracts are incentive based.

I like coach Hud. I dont think we have anything to worry about. I really dont think another school will take a chance on a new coach who has had one good year... Maybe after yr 3 or 4 i can see him leaving, but not now. He seems loyal and motivated to turn this program into a contender like Boise St or TCU.... All i can say is if for some strange reason he leaves us high and dry after one year he will be the most hated man in Louisiana, worse than Saban with the bandwagon fans at that ______hole across the mississippi river.... But i think we have nothing to worry about, because he is not stupid enough to leave this great university after one year with all the great recruits and fans. Geaux Cajuns!!!
