Memphis played at stAte last year. We led throughout the game in front of 30K, but we lost in the final 4 minutes. It would be great to play Memphis again, but USM will be great also.Originally Posted by USLJim
ASU will lose by 30...

Southern Mississippi travels well. This is probably the best choice for the City of Lafayette & the success of the NO bowl.Originally Posted by JMVCAJUNS
Basically the bowl was willing to not hold Memphis to being in the bowl in return for CUSA not shoving Houston down our throat.

Nice to see the Tigers win last night. Maybe they can come play Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl.Originally Posted by LSU Bob
Southern Miss would probably give Miami a better game than the Kitty Cats anyway. Seems like they lost their roar along the way.

Just curious, anyone know which bowl-eligible teams got left out this year (besides UL of course)?Originally Posted by RaginCajun08
Southern Mississippi's Golden Eagles will make their second straight New Orleans Bowl appearance this year, albeit at a different site.
The Golden Eagles accepted the bowl's invitation Sunday and will defend their 2004 title when they rolled past North Texas 31-10. They'll meet Arkansas State, the Sun Belt Conference co-champions and the league's representative in the bowl for the first time.
This year, though, USM will be coming to a different but not unknown site. The Dec. 20 New Orleans Bowl is scheduled for the University of Louisiana's Cajun Field, an alternate site from the event's normal Louisiana Superdome home but one made necessary with the ravages of Hurricane Katrina on the 'Dome and the Crescent City.
"This has been a difficult season for our coaching staff and players with all the hurricanes, injuries and other circumstances," said USM coach Jeff Bower, whose team finished 6-5. "I am proud of the players and especially our seniors for stepping up and doing what was necessary to earn the bowl invitation."
The Eagles are making their eighth bowl-game appearance in the last nine years and is one of only eight Division I-A teams to hold a streak of as many as 12 straight winning seasons.
