That said IF Hud wants the Ole Miss job and gets it good for him. We will move on. If he wants the Southern Miss job and gets it.. good for him.. we move on.

Word is that Hud is getting a raise and at some point you have to feel like its not just about the money. How much better is the Southern Miss job? Meh... While Ole Miss is the SEC.. its he 13 best job out of 14. Its clear that 7-4 and 8-5 isn't good enough for them. Can you do better? Maybe. If you don't.. enjoy your four years there.

Here in Lafayette 7-5 and 8-4 is perfect. Can you do better? Absolutely. Look at the level of players that are coming in. Imagine in two or three years... Hud knows better than I do what his best choice is... See you guys in New Orleans!!!!
Let's face facts, the Southern Miss job is a much, much better job than UL right now. They have been doing it the right way for years while we have been floundering. They pay Fedora $850K per year, and have better facilities and is in Mississippi, I am much more worried about HUD to USM than I am Ole Miss. You better believe that HUD is #1 on their list if Fedora was ever to leave.

Not me. I really don't see Hud going there. I know ... the Mississippi connection. And I agree that USM is in better position than UL RIGHT NOW. But 1) I think USM is close to their max and 2) I don't think USM has any better upside than UL. I think that, in the long term, a move to USM, while maybe a slight step up, is really too small of a step for Hud to go there soon.

Guys fact is, USM is a better fit because you comeinto a winning programs that with a top notch coach can knock on the door of BCS buster. The only thing Ole Miss has over USM or even MSu for that matter is conference. Thats it. I live in Oxford and know alls thats being said, mentioned, and thrown out there. There is a large percentage of the ole Miss fanbase that wants him BAD. And if it is Fedora, I wouldnt be shocked at all if Hud got the first call at USM and Mr Favre has the money and the resources to get him there. But I know Coach and I know his expectations and I think UL can provide those just as much as those two schools can. But facts is, We dont want this to turn into a bidding war with either school

IMO. Fedora to Ole Miss is very very bad for Cajuns. HUD would & probably should go to So Miss in a second. W/ Houston & UCF leaving USM becomes the best football job in CUSA. He would inherit a top 25 team, win big and be in the SEC.

Dude, I think you're "right on the money". Hattisburg is a town of about 50,000 people. USM has done a lot right over the years but I think they are maxed out. Lafayette is 4 to 5 times the size of Hattisburg and Lafayette has a much more dynamic economy. What we are seeing this year is only a scratch on the surface. There will be more money if that's what it takes to keep Hud. We will need to improve our conference affiliation though.

They are a much better program. There is no question, have you ever been to Hattisburg? That place breathes USM football. They did what we should have done 25 years ago. You guys can have delusions of grandeur all you want, we have the potential to be better than them 10 years down the road, but right now they are light years ahead of us.

Hattisburg probably doesn't suffer from as many USM grads who have never stepped foot on an Ole Miss campus being "diehards" and ignoring their alma mater.

Of course, we can't blame UL/USL grads who act as LSU diehards for our athletic department's problems. Too many years of the Authement/Blanco regime giving lip service to our athletics has made a reputation tough to shake.

And call me cynical, as we look at the possibility of Coach HUD leaving after just one year, but I can't help but think there is still too much of the old regime left at Martin Hall to help keep our coach here for at least one or two more years. Remnants of that same regime who sent our football program to rock-bottom, making a hire probably more for political reasons than wanting success.

How can you not say USM isn't a better job? Thats just crazy talk. In 2010-11 USM had an athletic budget around 20 million dollars. $7.2 million wrapped up in salaries, wages and fringe benefits. Add to that the fact that 65% of that was self generated funds and its easy to see. Lets not be all uppity here and act like this is the best job ever. We are what we are.. can we be better in 10 years? Sure... but look at where we have both gone since November 1, 2003. We have alot of ground to make up.

According to the football rumor mill website - freeze, malzahn, and Hud have been confirmed Ole Miss interviews.

I don't know the tuition costs at USM, but before you compare athletic budgets, you need to toss tuition from the equation.
