Thread: Hudspeth deals with rumors

  1. Default Hudspeth deals with rumors

No wonder UL head coach Mark Hudspeth's name keeps popping up in places. It did earlier this season, when Arizona — the Ragin' Cajuns' opponent Saturday — fired coach Mike Stoops after a 1-5 start. And it is again lately, especially on fan ...

Message boards may be Buckley's source, but scapegoat aside (at least in this case) the rumor mill was spun on a Mississippi radio station.

All of this talk will forever be coach speak. We should expect nothing different. I wish the media wouldn't ask the question because at some point you're forcing the coach to lie. Make no mistake: if he's pushed on it and he is in fact looking at other offers, he will lie about it! Just as any of us would!

It's a big pet peeve of mine when fans get upset with a coach for "deceiving the media" about a coaching job before eventually accepting that opening.

    I agree.... S'not what I intended when I posted.

It shouldn't be an article in our paper. He shouldn't be pushed on the topic.

    .
Wasn't directed at you at all.

As I'm sure you know, we've never had to deal with the pain of losing a football coach to another school! Uncharted territory...

Indeed.. coach speak isn't so much a sports cliche as it is a part of sports. They have certain things they have to say even if they are lying... (Sup Saban?)

That said IF Hud wants the Ole Miss job and gets it good for him. We will move on. If he wants the Southern Miss job and gets it.. good for him.. we move on.

Word is that Hud is getting a raise and at some point you have to feel like its not just about the money. How much better is the Southern Miss job? Meh... While Ole Miss is the SEC.. its he 13 best job out of 14. Its clear that 7-4 and 8-5 isn't good enough for them. Can you do better? Maybe. If you don't.. enjoy your four years there.

Here in Lafayette 7-5 and 8-4 is perfect. Can you do better? Absolutely. Look at the level of players that are coming in. Imagine in two or three years... Hud knows better than I do what his best choice is... See you guys in New Orleans!!!!

Our admin just needs to make sure we do not "USL" this deal. They need to live up to their promises made to him when he hired on. And if there are any of the "old guard" still in place spouting the tired old "thats not how we do it around here" or cautioning theat we "have to tread lightly so as not to upset supporters of other schools in the state" then they need to be shown the door. We have a chance at a new day here at UL. Hud has shown us a glimpse of what can be, anyone who is not on board with the new vision and the new way of doing things needs to turn in their retirement papers. If they want to live in the past let them go get a job at BBU, slu, nicholls, etc.
