Of course, we can't blame UL/USL grads who act as LSU diehards for our athletic department's problems. Too many years of the Authement/Blanco regime giving lip service to our athletics has made a reputation tough to shake.
And call me cynical, as we look at the possibility of Coach HUD leaving after just one year, but I can't help but think there is still too much of the old regime left at Martin Hall to help keep our coach here for at least one or two more years. Remnants of that same regime who sent our football program to rock-bottom, making a hire probably more for political reasons than wanting success.
How can you not say USM isn't a better job? Thats just crazy talk. In 2010-11 USM had an athletic budget around 20 million dollars. $7.2 million wrapped up in salaries, wages and fringe benefits. Add to that the fact that 65% of that was self generated funds and its easy to see. Lets not be all uppity here and act like this is the best job ever. We are what we are.. can we be better in 10 years? Sure... but look at where we have both gone since November 1, 2003. We have alot of ground to make up.

According to the football rumor mill website - freeze, malzahn, and Hud have been confirmed Ole Miss interviews.
I don't know the tuition costs at USM, but before you compare athletic budgets, you need to toss tuition from the equation.

OXFORD — Archie Manning denied today that interviews would take place this weekend in New Orleans.
Manning, co-chair of the search committee to replace Houston Nutt as Ole Miss’ football coach, wrote “It’s not true” in a text message to Clarion-Ledger columnist Rick Cleveland.
RebelGrove.com initially reported that the interviews could take place Sunday and Monday in New Orleans, and the candidates included Mark Hudspeth, Larry Fedora, Hugh Freeze and Kirby Smart.
There has not been a confirmation or denial of any candidates by the search committee. That’s not say that those four are not candidates, just that (as expected) there is no confirmation of that.
I lived in Hattiesburg for two years & I can tellyou first hand that there are almost as many LSU fans in Hattiesburg as there are USM fans. They also have a three way split with State & Ole Miss for fans depending on who is playing for more sets which way those fans gates are swinging. USM is absolutely topped out fan following wise & they definitley don't want to get into a bidding war with UL because UL could easily embarrass them with the difference in money here Vs. Hattiesburg. The question is will UL & the fat wallets in this community step up in a bidding war & let those stump jumpers know they don't have what it takes to steal our guy & therefore they don't have what it takes to steal our future football players.
What is scary is that if Hud gets interviewed he will WOW them like he still does us, but we will see.
