Guys, Memphis, Tulane, UAB are all perceived by the public to be better jobs than ours. They will also pay much more money. If Hud was confident enough that he could win at our place, he will be confident that he can win at Memphis, Tulane or UAB.
There is only one way we keep Hud at this point. $$$. All of these schools have more tradition than us, less fan support, but more money. However, we didn't have much fan support until this year either.
Farmer better have the lists turning right now. IMO
Its been speculated that Hud will stay near his family in mississippi. I'd say memphis is out.
I think I saw the word "covet" somewhere in this thread. To me, if Hud was gonna covet it job, it would be Mississippi State, not Ole Miss. Covet, to me, would suggest there is in emotional part of him that wants the job. Hud was an assistant at Mississippi State, and this may actually be the job he would want.
I agree with Kyle that Ole Miss would be a huge mistake for him. I just don't see where Ole Miss is gonna be competitive with LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, AND Auburn in the SEC West. Ole Miss may be looking at a long-term role as Northwestern or a Vanderbilt. Ole Miss may soon become a position NOBODY want to touch. And looking at the Ole Miss boards, Hud's name came up after Leach, Freeze, and Fedora at the top of the list. And it appears that Leach is what boards wants.
But what everybody on this board fails to recognize is that Kyle IS NOT A FAN OF UL. His board name even says so. Kyle doesn't have the same emotional attachment and investment that long-term Cajun (and Bulldog) fans have, regardless of how many season tickets he buys or checks he writes. So he sits back (as he does with the Saints) waits for a modicum of success, assumes a firm grasp of the obvious and then assails everybody for not being as smart as he is. No, Kyle, you're not smarter, you just don't have the loyalty of real Fans.
Whether Hud leaves in one year or seven years, it would be as if we are being rejected by a loved one. But it is something we've never faced. The University here? Graveyard of coaches who all go on to have good careers in real estate and bars/restaurants. I'll just go on being naive and hope that Hud will just want to build Boise State of the south.
Fletcher Mackel tweet...
Hearing lots of rumors Mark Hudspeth interviewed w/Archie Manning this weekend for Ole Miss job. Makes sense, Miss. guy, lots of success.
Except that he was in Arizona
Historical note: Panthers, Saints, Cajuns . . . Kyle jump onboard before any of the teams had success.
Well as kind of a side note---When it comes to choosing the Louisiana Coach of the year I say Les Miles and in the number 2 spot is Sonny Dykes of Tech---Why --Miles winning a national Championship and Dykes to winning the WAC and almost beating 3 out of three Miss teams on the road and killing Ole Miss---add to this almost beating a Houston top 5 team----OKKKKAY and I can see the crap that will come back at this-----BUT these guys are the facts!!!!! We have a coach which did an incredible job and came out 3rd in a lower rated league than the WAC---The facts!!! Man I hope we can keep our guy!!!!!
UAB have absoutely no tradition. They are stuck between Alabama and Auburn, they play there games at a dump of a stadium
in Legion Field, and they have no fan support. The folks at UAB want 75 Million dollars to build an on campus football stadium, but
about 2 weeks ago someone from the University of Alabama system board of trustees told the folks at UAB that they need to
worry about there medical programs instead of a new football stadium. In my opinion, the UAB job might be the toughest job in all of college football. If Larry Fedora leaves Southern Mississippi, that's when I will really start to worry if Mark Hudspeth is staying or
going.
