Yeah but what WWII gaveth it tooketh away. All the V12 athletes left for duty after one year.

Randolf Field however continued to recieve athletes and was ranked 3rd in the country the following year.

History has not told the tale of how brutal our schedule was in 43. Every team we played was an all-star team like ours.

None of the regular schools would touch us with a 10 foot pole.

Perhaps the University of Louisiana needs a Sports Historian. Get your resumes ready.

    Any nominations???

    intersting site...

So basically we can thank WWII for that year.. heh..
My dad was going to SLI back then and was band president one year. He said Alvin Dark(from Lake Charles) was a phenomenal athlete in any sport he participated in.

I can remember his days as a player with the Giants(baseball) and then as a manager for several teams.

I also think Glen Davis of Army fame may have played for SLI one of those WWII years and I think my mom has a yearbook with his pic in it. I will be in Lafayette over the T'giving holidays and check it out.

Default Never been to a bowl (wrong)

That is wrong but I see the claim on every UL website I go to. The UL SID should spend his summer fixing this. It's bad for perception it's bad for recruiting. I know we been to one bowl it might be two.

    I love these inquiries!

My guess is they are refering to bowl games as a D1 team. The Cajuns have not attended a
bowl game since the 1970 Grantland Rice bowl vs Tennessee State. (L 26-25) Other than that, the only other bowl appearance was the 1944 Oil bowl vs Arkansas A&M. (W 24-7)
