north texas went to the n.o. bowl with 5 wins a few years ago; apparently the 6 win criterion is for an-large as opposed to 'win-in' team.

I believe the ncaa gave them a waiver because they were the league champion but did not have the six wins overall. I'm not positive but I think another team (MTSU maybe?) had an overall winning record but was 2nd in conference. Since that time the conference, at the request of the bowl committe I believe, changed the rule so tht if that situation came up again the bowl committe could elect to bypass the league champ and pick another team in the conference who had an overall winning record or possibly someone outside the conference. Can anyone verify if I have stated that correctly?

As far as I understand it, if we beat Monroe, regardless of what else happens, we basically have the upperhand in the tie-breaker. Don't remember exactly what I read that lead to that conclusion, but that's what I heard. IMO, if we beat UL-Dumbroe, we're in. I think the Bowl committee would be stupid not to select us should there be some kind of tie. I mean come on, a team on a 5 game win streak, playin a bowl game at home? Against a regional CUSA team. How much better can it get?

Not anymore. One D-1AA win counts to your record every year now. If we had played and won against two D-1AAs, then only 1 would count this year.

Conference Champions are ALWAYS determined prior to any determination of bowl eligibility status.

You are wrong, if Funroe loses to N. Texas, and then to us, they will have 3 losses, eliminating them from the equation.

Someone mentioned that a three way tie between ULM, ASU and you guys but, I believe that scenario isnt possible. Any loss by Monroe and they are eliminated, if they don't lose they win it.

A tie between Us and You. ASU goes, as long as we have the 6 wins to be bowl eligible otherwise you guys would go if you have 6 wins.

I''m assuming no one else is going to be eligible.

By the way you guys have made a great run since playing us and probably deserve the bowl as much or more than anyone.

OK, here it is....and I'm only going to say it once.

The best case scenario for UL is for ASU to lose to North Texas and UL to Beat ULM. If that happens, the Cajuns are going to the bowl. Period.

If ULM loses BOTH of its games (UNT and UL), then Arkansas State MUST lose in order for the Cajuns to go.

Now, if ASU and ULM both beat North Texas and the Cajuns beat ULM, then all three tie for the title at 5-2. Although ULM won't be bowl eligible, they are still in the three way tiebreaker because we're talking about a conference champion here.

In the case of a three way tie, the bowl committee DOES NOT select the representative. The basketball tiebraker would be used until a team is eliminated. That means that all three teams would have their record against the fourth place team come into play.

Hypothetically, this would mean if MTSU finished fourth, ASU loses the tiebreaker because they lost to MT while the Cajuns and ULM both beat the Raiders. The Cajuns would then get the berth because they beat ULM.

But if another team finishes fourth, that could change who goes.

If the three teams are tied for first place and the tiebreaker eliminates the Cajuns, then the berth goes to ASU because ULM would not be bowl eligible at 5-6.

Remember, ULM still only has one conference loss as of right now.

In the first year, MTSU finished second in conference and had an overall record of 8-3 I believe. Under "today's" rules; MTSU would have represented the Sun Belt in the N.O. Bowl since NT was 5-6; but that year it was the champ; period.
