    University of North Alabama. LINK

Brett Smith is now an assistant coach for the University of North Alabama. This will be his first year in collegiate coaching, but he is no stranger to what it takes to be a part of a winning program. Coach Smith was a four-year starter at the University of Louisiana and was a part of an NCAA Tournament team as well as an NIT team. During Smith’s career, the Ragin’ Cajuns won the Sun Belt Conference regular season as well as the Sun Belt Conference Tournament (2000). The four-year letterman currently holds the school record for games played with 123 games.

Smith is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at La with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is working on his MBA here at UNA. Also as a player, Smith has had experience with various professional and semi-professional teams such as the Sydney Razorbacks.

Smith began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Hills Hornets in his home country of Australia. This team was Sydney Conference Champions and State Champions with a record of 27-0. For the past two years, Smith’s two teams each won a championship with records of 19-1 and 14-4 respectively.

Coach Smith’s primary duties with the Lions will be developing the post players. He will also be responsible for recruiting, scouting, game preparation and overseeing the academic progress of our players.

We are very happy to have the “Big Aussie” at UNA and we feel that he will be a valuable asset to both our team and the university.
