I think the home tourney will help next week. 2 very winnable games against HBU and a young Nicholls team. Then a nice test against Cal St. Fullerton.

Kadeem Colby really gives the Cajuns an inside presence, the key to Kedeem Colby is to stay out of foul trouble. I was really
impressed watching Elfred Payton, he is a true point guard who can get to the basket anytime he wants, he also can penetrate and
dish which no Cajuns point guard has been able to do since Orien Greene. If the Cajuns hit perimeter shots the Cajuns will be tough to beat.
I wish Elfred or SOMEBODY would have wanted to penetrate to score last night. We kept jacking up...and MISSING...3s and we just couldn't figure out that some other offense might have been better.
But, hey, the season's just starting and next weekend should be fun in the Dome.
We did start penetrating more in the second half, that's how McClellan and J.J. along with Josh Brown were able to score. However, the USF defense was almost in a sagging zone which provided wide open 3 point shots that we didn't hit. AMT finally came in and hit some but they were daring us to hit. Most of those shots were good looks and pretty open.
I was especially impressed with Payton and Darnell Jackson. Jackson controlled the game early and even hit a couple of perimeter shots. He is an all around player who can rebound, defend and get up the court. He reminds me very much of a Dwayne Mitchell in his size and style. We didn't win more than one game in this tourney but this team gave me some things to be excited about. I think this could be a very good team.
AMT is going to have to learn how to play defense because we'll need him to be in there for points. Darnell Jackson making 2/3 against USF was nice too. If we're going to win a lot of games this year, it'll be because of Kadeem Coleby, J.J. Thomas, and Darshawn McClellan staying out of foul trouble and scoring.
While we don't have any 3 point snipers, we have some guys who can hit the open 3 and with our new inside game and ability to penetrate, I think we'll get some open shots. AMT shoots the ball well. While he didn't shoot particularly well this weekend, you can see that he is a solid shooter and will help us from the outside. When we penetrated yesterday, USF couldn't stop us and we got a lot of close shots. I feel good about this team, even though they may not be the best perimeter shooting team
