Thread: Last play of the game?

Default Last play of the game?

So will the sunbelt make us put a timeclock on the lockerroom side of the stadium after that last play? I did not think the ball would be snapped in time because the quarterback did not know how much time was left because the timeclock was behind him. I am sure ULM is using that as excuss!

I was thinking the same thing, but does the play clock adjust to reflect time left in the game IF it's less? I didn't noticed as I was counting down the clock waiting for the snap. and boy did he get that thing off with micro seconds to spare!

If the game clock is running and it is less than the 40 seconds, the play clock does not run

It was odd that he didn't throw a hail mary pass... He had to know that was the last play of the game.... Also, the play before when the ulm player was shoved out of bounds, I thought for sure the clock would be stopped... It sure looked from the angle that I saw it that he was not down... oh well, I'll take it!..

You don't need a clock for a moment like that, in fact if you are looking at the clock you will fail.

The clcok has to be in your head.

That was a "fast as possible" moment for ULM. You don't need a clock for that.

There is a play clock in both endzones as required. There is no requirement to have a scoreboard game clock in both endzones. And yea, the whiney hoax fans and sports writers for the News Star are using that as an excuse while ignoring the fact that the players and coaches had their heads up their collectives ashes in those last two minutes. They wasted timeouts instead of saving them for their potential game wining drive. They did not execute the two minute offense well and they were totally discombobulated as far as player packages and formation in setting up that last play and it cost them valuable time that might have allowed them to kick a last second game wining field goal. Instead they are what we knew they were coming into this game...losers. Or as the students in the Red Zone so aptly put it "UL Rejects".

    Suck it, Hoax.

he did go out of bounds but the official ruled his forward progress had already been stopped; therefore, the clock did not stop.

The same ruling was made on the fumble by Ladarius Green that was recovered by ULM. The official immediately signaled down, meaning forward progress had been stopped. That is not a reviewable play.

It was truly a "keystone hoax" moment.

Well they know the lay out of the field. That's teams are asked which endzone they would like to defend. Teams choose appropriately.

Seriously, reverse positions... we're ULM driving late in the game heading towards the locker room... wouldn't you want to see a game clock in front of you? It's no excuse for the loss and I know Hud wouldn't ever use that as an excuse if the rolls were eversed. But seriously, this is something we should fix ASAP. I know it'll cost $$$, but we need at least a working game clock on that side of the field.

That endzone clock situation is an issue known to both teams at the start of the game. It does not favor either team. ULM had 3 hours to know what they had or didn't have for timing devices. They knew they had no timeouts and that every second was precious in that one minute drive. They were disorganized and did not get lined up fast enough on that final play. They didn't save a timeout... and could have... and they needed it. They were driving toward that endzone for the entire second and fourth quarter.

At the end of the prior play, the ULM QB should have looked back at the game clock (again, the same place it was for 2 quarters for him) if he was unsure of the time remaining and the fact the clock was running with no timeouts left. His team failed to get lined up quickly. The only clock that mattered was the game clock since they were down to 20 seconds. ULM had to either chunk a ball downfield hoping for a completion/TD or pass interference call. If they were going for a sideline completion and out of bounds to stop the clock, I'll call BS... that is not what was set up. Their coach messed up by exhausting his timeouts, they were unable to move the ball far enough downfield in that final minute, and that final play was a total mess. Game over!

Oh, but we do need to get a working game clock in that endzone.
