Default Down by Only 4 with 5 Minutes to Play, and Cajun Field Starts Emptying

Look, I know this board has seen more than enough of the "fan leaving early" threads. But what I saw last night was embarrassing.

You had people giving up and leaving, in droves, when we were down by only 4. And of course, when ULM scored to go up by 11, people couldn't make it to the gate fast enough.

Those people missed definitely the greatest finish at Cajun Field that I have every seen in my 30 year lifetime. I was there for Texas A&M upset, but that game did not have the near miracle turn-around that we witnessed in the last 3 minutes last night.

I do want to say this, and maybe I need to put it in a letter to the Daily Advertiser because I'm pretty much preaching to the choir here: Lafayette, you say you want a winner, you have one now! Treat these guys with the same respect as you would treat a winner, which means, DO NOT empty out of your seats and head to your vehicle during a 4 point game when our guys need you the most!

Again, I was embarrassed and felt sorry for our players and coaches that so many fans gave up on them so easily. Did I think we were going to pull that off? No. I was already planning for a loss in my head. But my daughters and I stayed, hoping for any chance...TD, onside, TD...and we got exactly that!

    What a finish!

A loss to those who left...a miraculous series of events that will forever be remembered as a turning point in the history of Cajun football to those who stayed. Let's move on...Arkansas State for the Belt.

Good things come to those who wait?

Not sure if I could take much more of the waiting like that. I'll soon be as bald as BOP!

Yes a lot of people left when Mason threw the pick and ULM scored the TD, but a lot of people stayed also. It's not like the stands were empty when the Cajuns made the comeback. I stayed, I always do. But the way the Cajuns played the first 25 minutes of the second half I understand why people were a little disappointed. I don't think we need to complain or call out those who left early, I Think they all realized their mistake when they heard what happened. I doubt that those who left will ever leave a game until the clock reads 00:00. The only people who felt worse than those who left are the ULM players coaches and fans. To lose in OT last week and then lose like this this week must be a bad feeling. I bet they wish they all could have left with 3 minutes left on the Clock. JMO

My wife and I went down to the rail to thank the players as they went around the field. More than one of them said..."Thanks for staying."

I was down by the rail as well. The players recognize that fans get there late and that they leave early. You might not think that they pay attention but they do.

You are either a fan are you're not. Stay till the end. Just out of respect for what these kids have accomplished over the last few months.
