Thread: QB CONTROVERSY?

I think Mike is a great athlete but he's not a great QB yet. Trying to make a drive with 9 runs to 1 pass won't work on a team when they start putting 9 in the box. You have to have a QB that can throw the ball well, to make those guys get out of the box and covering our receivers. Babb was throwing the ball well, it's just the receiever were having trouble holding on to the ball for some reason. With Babb healthy he should be the QB for this team.

Agree. The stats alone do not tell the whole story. Sampy dropped 2 balls right in his hands (at least 1 of those was thrown by Babb), and another ball was dropped around mid-field that would have resulted in a 25-yd gain and a first down. Do agree about the rust however. Right now I'd still start MD; but get Babb a lot more time. I think he can do a better job of keeping UNT off-balance.

MD should start if he gets the job done. If he does not get it done then you go with jerry. You should not pull him after two touchdown drives. If its not broken don't fix it. Jerry is great but he is not ready yet.

I agree. At least keep Desormeaux in as long as he consistently thrashing the opponent's defense. What was the reasoning behind pulling Desormeaux when he was clearly shredding the Troy D? What was the reasoning for pulling him in the middle of a drive in which he was shredding the Troy D?

I have to agree. I wasn't able to make the game (I live in Hawaii), but from what I have been told and what I read, MD should be in there. I understand that Babb's numbers are a little decieving because of dropped passes, but I think that makes the argument even stronger for MD. If recievers are dropping passes and not making plays, then you need a qb in there who can do other things. Also, the fact that ALL of the Cajun's points came when MD was in the game prove that there is SOMETHING that MD is doing to spark the O that Babb is not. I like Babb, but at this point you have to take off the rose colored glasses and see who's putting points on the board. It's about winning and losing, not making everyone feel good. Troy was so concerned with containing MD that they had to shoot their defensive ends straight up the field. This opened up a lot of room for the running game. That isn't reflected in MD's stats, but it shows how important he is to this O. I say go with what you know...and the Cajuns are scoring with MD in the game.

Valid points; however late in the game we did little offensively, and I think a lot of that had to do with little to no threat of a passing game. The ends did exactly what you said, only they made tackles. Ditto for overtime...3 runs, then kick the FG. I was a little surprised that Babb didn't get back in the game in the 2nd half (if he did I missed it). I'm sure that had a lot to do with his lack of effectiveness in the 1st half. As for why he played after MD had good results, I can only point to the interview Coach Cristophel did with Billy on friday (sportsnote) where he stated exactly that.......Babb would come in after a couple/few drives to see what he could do rather than wait and see "if" they needed him.

i hear what you're saying. like i said, i wasn't there to get to see it first hand, so i can only go by what i'm told. i agree that a passing game is necessary, but i also believe that the running game sets that up. it also eats up that clock and keeps our d off of the field (if it's successful). i think that MD will develop into a better passing qb, and he is the hot hand right now. but i also think that babb should be rotated in at certain points in the game as well. it's a tricky situation, with no easy or obvious answers. the upside: it has people talking...which is always good.

I think it just depends on the Defense we are playing. If we can run the ball at will, keep in Mike. BUt if we are stuggling with the run and need open up the pass game, give it to Jerry.

Personally, I feel it should be Babb playing and he is the team leader. However, I dont think the coaches should switch things up when we are hot.

ie. We run down Troy's throat in the first 10 minutes of the game, then Jerry comes in and we start flinging it and give the ball up and let them stick around.

Who knows how things may have been differed, but if Mike stays in at that point and we score again, the game could have been a lot different...stick with the HOT hand!

I guess we do, now that our hands are being forced by this poll. Two good QBs are better than one or none, and I feel good when either is in the game. I abstain!

Babb is an excellent qb, and I have not forgotten all of the illustrious numbers that he has put up, but is MD capable of even more? Is it a disservice to our football program to sit MD b/c of the incumbent, but very capable, JB? Just a thought.
Desormeaux is doing a great job, but don't forget that the main part of ther offense was FENROY. If Jerry's passing can be blended in correctly with FENROY's running.............an almost unstoppable offense will emerge (if we don't drop passes) Don't forget.............Jerry can run too

Wait until Chery gets the offense down, he's got 4.3 speed.

Also, Deon Wallace will be playing next year. I can't wait, it'll get ugly for some opponents.

Coach adressed the switch on his radio show tonight. He defended the switch and said that if we don't have the dropped passes or the receiver falling down after making the catch we probably score on those two drives. I see his view that those drives stalling were not necessarily Babb's fault but I still believe the momentum changed at that point. I would have prefered to keep going with Des until troy stopped him.

Once again, I can only rely on what I heard, but it's my understanding that a big reason that Fenroy was able to break out was because troy was focusing on stopping MD. From what I understand, they were shooting the D-ends up the field (which opens up the middle) and they put a linebacker spying on MD, which also aids the running game. It's my opinion that, until they can stop the run, keep at it, and if we score on those 2 drives...then you can put babb in with a little bit more of a cusion. This will allow him to relax and get back into the groove of playing again, without the stress of it being a closer game. Also, I understand that had there not been some dropped balls, Jerry's #s would have been better, but that is more of a reason to keep MD in...if passes are dropped, then capitalize on the run until you have to pass. Just my opinion...
