Congrats Tyren!
That's awesome, I was thinking about him earlier this week.
Very cool and deserving.
Tyren Johnson Selected in 1st Round of NBA Development League Draft
UL product Tyren Johnson was selected Thursday night in the first round of the NBA Development League draft.
The 2009-10 season's Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year went 14th overall to the defending league-champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Johnson played last season for General Okapi Aalstar, a pro team in Belgium.
From West St. John High in Edgard, he averaged 7.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 114 games over four seasons for the Ragin' Cajuns.
But Johnson had a breakout season as a senior, leading UL in five statistical categories, including points per game with 17.9 and rebounds per game with 8.0.
Rio Grande is the D-League affiliate of the NBA's Houston Rockets, but the Rockets do not own Johnson's NBA rights just because the Vipers drafted him.

As a senior?????? I thought T. Johnson left early and we were all puzzled by why he went pro as a junior.
I believe Tyrus Wade was the last player to leave early. Tyren had his breakout season as a senior. He's been working hard and practices every chance he gets no matter what city he is in. And he still pulls for his Cajuns. I send him updates every chance I get.
You are absolutely correct. The biggest travesty in all of that, was that he was used sparingly as a true freshman instead of being red-shirted. If he had been red-shirted, he would have been a 5th year Senior last year...could you imagine what Marlin would have been able to do with his talent. Just another travesty committed by the former coaching staff.
I guess the D-League isn't attached to the ...let's say 'trouble'... that the NBA is going through right now.
