    UL Football Recruiting

I just happened to be skimming through the rivals.com records and saw that monroe have already verbally committed 3 guys, one out of our own back yard with the Boudreaux kid from Catholic High N.I.. They got a RB from West Monroe and a Two star offensive lineman. Why can't we do this, can anyone think of the last time we verbally comitted someone in season. Its just so frustrating to see Monroe getting atheletes right out of our back yard. Can someone please pick my spirits up because now I'm really ||||ed.

I don't really have an answer. BOP said we are limited in the number of players we can sign this year so we are going after the better athletes. I hope those athletes are DT's, DE's, and LB's.

This time last year players named Desmond Jackson and Chancellor Roberson had verbally committed.

I think I heard Bustle say he was going to back off the early commitments this year. . . . . ?

I'm with you. I have been frustrated now for the last 10 years or so.

I'm to point where I don't think anybody around this University know what the hell they are doing and what is going on.

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Recruiting

We have to go to the defensive route this offseason, so I guess Bustle's waiting for some players on that side of the ball. Hopefully this record so far doesn't scare all the good players away from taking a look at this university and all it has to offer.

I visited Rivals yesterday to look. Was somewhat disappointed that we were not even listed yet (i.e. zero verbals); but I also noticed several schools not listed such as LaTech and several SBC schools. Verbals this early don't really mean that much to schools in the bottom half of D-1A other than perhaps bring attention to what the school is trying to get. I'm sure the staff has several recruits they are paying great attention to and we'd like to know "who" they are..........that's really my only frustration.

Other than those players who really have hopes/dreams of BCS competition, I think our current record could actually work to our benefit. That is, guys will come in realizing they have a real chance to contribute early; much like some of the young offensive players this year. I agree about the defensive side needing to be the focal point. That and more OL prospects.

I'm not bothered at all about the QB from down the road commiting to UL-M, especially with our depth at that position. Wouldn't bother me a bit if we didn't recruit any QBs this year.

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Recruiting

With the depth QB, I really don't expect any QB's to look over here, because of the time it would take for them to start. The O-Line is another position we need more people, for depth reasons. If we can sign 2-3 juco players along with 2-3 high school players we should be ok on the O-Line for the future.

I believe you need to sign a QB every year because of the uncertainty of the position. Look at the situation at Memphis, they lost both QB's to broken legs and now they are struggling to find someone to fill the role.

I am all for going after the best linemen and linebackers we can find but the difficult thing for a small school to do is find good o and d linemen. I will be in the minority here but I don't think the line is our problem...we need to get some size at the linebacker position because we are very undersized there. I love Wes Simon and Tre Green because they aren't afraid to get in there and make a tackle but they get swollowed up by the much larger o linemen and fullbacks that are blocking them. Our skill positions will always be the strong point of our team because it is so hard to recruit quility size unless you are a USC, Texas, or LSU.

Recruiting is not the issue on defense to me, it is the schemes that are being run...with the type of guys we have on that side we need to attack with a lot of different blitz packages.

Josh didn't picked ULM because he felt that they gave him the best oppourtunity to start as a freshman, because the QB they have now is a senior and from what he said he thinks he can compete with their back-ups right off the back. This isn't something i'm guessing, Josh is actually my sister's (who lives with me in new iberia and also is going to UL) boyfriend and he's always at the house and me and him hang out a lot, I along with everyone else wish that Josh would've signed with us but if we are realistic about it, it would make no sense to come here when we are already STACKED at QB........ o and just to throw something in for all you game junkies, i was playing a dynasty on NCAA 06 with Florida and i always just check on UL and in my third season, Hundley was starting over Desormeaux.....thas crazy huh

"Verbal" and "Commited" should never be used in the same sentence. Using the word "early" makes it closer to "...has expressed interest" than "...has commited."

Anyway, ULM is playing better football than we are, so it would make sense that some Acadiana kids are interested. It's going to take more than a indoor facility and this cool message board.

I totally disagree with your last statement. We have not recruited well at certain positions on defense. We have a walk-on and converted Off-lineman playing at Def.Tackle.No depth at the DE position either, poor job.
