    Ragin' Cajuns NSU Sportscasters

Attended NSU's Homecoming this weekend to see my niece get presented on the Homecoming Court. Well the game was full of penalities by both NSU and SLU. NSU won but I left during the 3rd quarter to return to home and decided to listen to the game on 97.3 fm. Well the same ole ||||, they announcer, especially the color guy , kept referring to UL as LAFAYETTE. If I had had there number I probably would have called. These radio sports people are not gonna give us any credit except our own guys in Lafayette.

Wanted to kick my brother's ||| when he introduced me as going to OOOO La La, I reminded him, he went to Lolly Poly( La Tech) for all you youngsters. He's a redneck from Cornpawn USA, )Haughton, La. If anyone wants a piece of my brothers |||, I will give ya'll his address. LOL.

Su why were the radio guys for an NSU-SLU game even talking about us? And these are the same schools and fans that will try to convince us that they didn't oppose us in '84 and really don't care what we call ourselves. Once again, seems like a whole lot of "not caring" going on.

They were mentioning us because we played them earlier in the season. They made reference to their poor play and how they seem to be improving since playing us. Again, calling us Lafayette.

    We are Lafayette.

    ULM is Monroe.

    Just like UC-Berkeley is Berkeley.

    Get used to it.

We will become known as the Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. Mark my words.

    Dumb, Just plain dumb.

It's a State thing to call us Lafayette, but, once again we are UL- Lafayette or Louisiana-Lafayette. I ain't gonna get use to it and I will continue to push the point.

The only way we will win this battle is to prove ourselves Academically(which we are), win in sports, and if our alumnus just plain get tired of all this trash talk and talk back. Giving up is not a choice.

    Geaux Cajuns.

Are you a resident of Lafayette? I read in this morning's Advertiser a quotation from Coach Bustle referring to UL@M as "Monroe."

For this reason, I'm beginning to think like Hot Boudin.

I think its just a jab back at the competition. We sure as heck aren't going to call them "Louisiana", even if they have owned us on the football field recently. And they will be a tough battle again this year, and sadly should be the favorites.

They are dangerously close to playing a New Orleans Bowl game on our field. That should completely confuse the national audience.

I certainly understand this position. However, my thought was if Coach Bustle refers to UL@M as "Monroe", isn't it likely Coach X [a coach @ any other university that is in the Sun Belt Conference, in La. and/or is on the Cajuns' schedule) is referring to the university in Lafayette as "Lafayette"? And if the coach(es) is/are doing it, then the sportscaster(s) for such team(s) may likely be doing the same thing. And, if that's happening, then, in the words of Gov. Minneleas "Pappy" O'Daniel in the movie "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?", "We ain't one-at-a-timin' here; we're mass communicatin'!"

And this is the reason I agreed w/ Hot Boudin. Watching this develop, now over something approaching five years, I think, it seems to me this "Lafayette" and "Monroe" thing has more usage than most of the fervent supporters of each university would prefer.

All the other coaches already call us "Lafayette" -- SBC schools, NW St, LaTech (when they're not using USL), etc. So right now we're stuck in this conumdrum.
