Thread: Illegal forward pass by WKU

  1. #1

Default Illegal forward pass by WKU

On the play where WKU had the ball in the 4th quarter at mid field on 3rd and 10, Jakes obviously threw an illegal forward pass as he was beyond the line of scrimmage. The pass was tipped down field and WKU got the ball at the 1 yard line. Why was this play not challenged or reviewed? At the time we were just down by 5 points and WKU should have lost the down and punted to us.

His whole body needs to be across. It was not. Correct call (IMO).

That was the explanation the WKU radio crew gave.

There were also two offensive linemen well past the 40 on that play as well.

Those plays shouldn't have mattered. We didn't do what we needed to do today. We gave up 42 points today. Evidently, wku is an offensive juggernaut when they play us for some reason.

I always thought the rule stated it is where the ball is at when it releases from his hand? I thought his whole body was across the line of scrimmage anyway by a good 1/2 yard.

I always thought this wasw the rule in the pros, college, & high school on down the line. From what Jay & Steve said, the rule in college is the whole body must be across the line. It was an absolutely critical call at that time in the game. because it was third & long & it put WKU up by twelve.

Still my question is, why wasn't it reviewed?

Accoriding to the broadcasters they did review it, but not for the penalty but rather when & where the reciever caught the ball. They placed the ball at the one. It didn't sound like they even considered where the ball was thrown from.

I understand they reviewed the catch and the spot but I don't think the pass was reviewed and I don't understand why not. We see it in the NFL all the time. I know this is not the NFL but what excatly is the rule and is it a reviewable play?

I don't trust anything those guys in the booth for WKU had to say.

The coach can call for a revieiw where the ball is spotted after a play especially in a critical first down situation but not this? Now that makes for a lot of bull S--t to me.
