In all seriousness you do make a very strong point. In fact I'm a little worried about the same thing myself but I think we'll be just fine.

Without a doubt, we could use a few more like that.

6 wins gets you a bowl. One FCS victory can count toward that 6.

In the eyes of bowl selection committees, 6 wins and 7 wins are not to be discriminated between. Correct Jay?
We have had 6 wins a few times in the past few years and we were not invited to a bowl game. So no 6 wins does not gaurantee us a bowl game. If 2 other schools with 6 or more wins also come out of the SBC it is possible that we stay home. It has happened more than once. And I would bet if we lose our last 5 games and go 6-6 we are likely staying home.

Exactly, a 6-6 team on a 5 game losing streak does not look good, keep winning, feels alot better

That's not the point I'm making. I know we've been left out at 6 wins. But in the eyes of bowl selection committees, one more win doesn't get us another drop of cred. 8 wins is the next "milestone of eligibility."

When selections are being made, 6 and 7 win teams will all be in the same pot.

I take the Alfred E. Newman (MAD Magazine) approach. "What, me worry??"

6 wins for BCS teams get a bowl games
6 wins (with 1 beating FCS) for worst Conference in America gets you nothing (As you have noticed in years 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009)
6 wins (with no FCS win/loss and 1-2 wins vs other bowl teams) for worst Conference in America gets you a bowl game
7+ wins for worst Conference in America gets you a bowl game

    I am also worried.
I am confident that we have the best IN SHAPE athletes in the sunbelt and all of our games will be won in the second half due to this.
You also have to take into account that NFL home field atmosphere is NOTHING like Sun Belt home field atmosphere, so far anything close to home field atmosphere taking a huge 12th man effect would be OUR HOME FIELD. I just hope our guys didn't take that for granted and will realize that every game after this will be a battle. Nothing is a given.

This just isnt true. The past was different. We had 1 bowl tie in, therefore since we werent conference champs, we did not get the SBC bowl, so we had to fight with other teams for secondary bowls. The difference now being, as long as there's the conference champs and us at 6+ wins, we'll get the NO Bowl and the Godaddy.com bowl will have the champs.

Also, we still have the secondary bowl tie ins that will likely be free due to the SEC being avg this year. And again, until last year I believe, we were below 7 win teams in the pecking order, so we had fewer openings and had to fight it out with other 6 win teams. You're chances were much worse of finding that bowl. That also means being at 7 wins is exactly the same as 6. 8 wins would be a better mark. Plus we have better attendance than almost any other team we'll be fighting with for a bowl, not necessarily true in the past.

Obviously a 5 gm losing streak would be devastating, but enough of the preaching. This team is not going to give up. They're not settling. We're not settling. The only reason people are talking about bowls now is because we've hit a milestone. Since the rules of college football have changed since those previous disappointments, its a legit milestone. We're not going to only win 6 games, but that doesnt mean we cant be excited for hitting this point.

the question isnt about this year... its a general question about 6 wins
And I would put money on if for some unGodly reason a team with 6-1 in the Sun Belt conference would lose 5 straight games to end the season, that said team would not make it to a bowl game.

Comments about the past being different were wrong. What you mention is different circumstances and one that I could believe.
