I think in the season we went 8-3, we were ranked 22nd or 23rd in the AP poll at some point. I think that's the case.

IMO 8-4 would be a let down, 9-3 would not. Like a lot of people here I do think we have been getting some breaks, but we also seem to be improving as the season goes on. If we win again this week 8-4 would definitely feel like a let down.

I remember that. Like 1993, maybe? Pretty sure I was stationed in Oakland, CA, at the time.

I think it depends on if you include the same team appearing more than once. I think Oklahoma State was ranked in 1986 and in 2010, Texas A&M in 1996, Alabama in 1994 (?). Not sure about any of the others - maybe Texas Tech???

Don't think we've ever been officially ranked, although we have been RANK a few times! I think that year we were 8-3 (1986 ?) we received votes for what was then the Top 20. We may have been the 23rd in terms of votes received, so we didn't make the "Big Board" then.

Didn't expect to see a "what are we willing to settle with" thread at 6-1... why can't this team be 11-1? Will we slip up? Maybe. Will we be favored in every game? No. But we should, because we're the better team. Period. Any losses from here on out are dissappointing, because we're better than WKU, MT, ULM, Ark. St, and Arizona. Period. That's not cocky. Just truth. Our defense is better, and our offense is better. And we have the best punter in the nation. he pinned FIU inside the 5 5 times I believe. 11-1 is what this team is capable of. 8-4 would be an underachievement.

WOW, did I just say that?

I agree, that's my point... I feel like a lot of people are thinking 11-1 or 10-2, which led to this thread, it's amazing that fans are saying that 8-4 would be a disappointment, and at this point, it really would be!!

I did not say it was bad, in fact it is great. Breaks are a part of the game and I think a byproduct of hard work. I fully expect a SBC championship from this team but will still be cheering them on in the NOLA bowl no matter what the record is.

This is the best post I have read since joining this site. Had anyone told me this team would be 6-1 after the OSU game I would have asked them which part of their head they fell on when they were a baby. Now, I am thoroughly convinced this team is better than every team they play from this point on. 11-1 is the benchmark now because this coach, his staff, & most importantly these players have made it the new benchmark of excellence for this school. Anything less, now, would disappoint this team & therefore disappoint me as a fan. 10-2 may be the final tally if ASU plays a great game & gets all the breaks, but this team is on a collision course with its new destiny, & its new destiny is that of a champion.
