Ragin' Cajuns #32 in the first BCS poll

Sorry if someone posted this already. UL is #32 in the first BCS poll of the season.

I would love to say this is the highest we have ever been ranked, as I seriously doubt we have ever been ranked higher, but since I have no way to prove this, I am not.

Also, we have 6 votes in the Harris poll, up from 2:

wow...we are a spot ahead of Florida in this. I NEVER thought there would come a day that UL would be ranked higher than them. This years team just continues to shock me.

    better frame this list

#32 would disapper in a hurry if we played most any of the teams listed immediatley below us. We would have a VERY hard time and would be extremely lucky to win against any of those teams.

I thought UL was ranked 17 or something in the 70's? Of course it wasn't a "BCS" poll though.

The only previous ranking I can see is #14 in 1943

How nice would #25 be this season? I wouldn't say it is very likely, but definitely within the realm of possibility.

I think UL has been ranked mid-season a couple times, but unless we find an archived or microfiche news story it will be hard to prove.

Of course the 1943 poll was an end of season poll. . .

I have zero doubt that UL was the very best team in the country that year, and wouldn't mind arguing the point with any of the 13 schools ranked above them.

As encouraged as to what we have accomplished so far, I have to agree. Our schedule outside of OSU is suspect at best. But we are winning these games we would have struggled to in the past!

When I see a poll, I view it as a listing of how well a list of teams has done on the field of play. The 25th ranked team is not necessarily the 25th best team in the country...but, on the field of play...with all things that went right or wrong as they progressed thru their schedule...they have performed so as to warrant a ranking of 25.

If a team...say Florida...had a ton of injuries and, as a result, was 0 and 6. And now that they have those players back, should their ranking be adjusted because they could now beat several teams ahead of them? No! A ranking is based on record...not on how they might fair in a head-to-head game.

What's odd is, to UL fans, the only thing keeping us out of the polls is our HARD upcoming schedule: We are playing all but one road games, and it is hard to be undefeated through so many away games. We lose a game, we lose any hope at being ranked.

To the rest of the country, the thing keeping us out of the polls is how EASY our schedule is. We could win every game, but since we played Mickey Mouse teams, it doesn't matter.
