Tulane is a death sentence for a coach. The University doesn't support athletics. More than a few of the faculty and administrators there have this bizarre Harvard of the South fantasy that they think is incompatible with a legitimate athletic presence on campus. (Ironically, they think they are the smart ones.) The students do not support athletics and only a handful of alumni give a hoot. They have scratched together some success in baseball through the will of a single man and the help of a few dedicated alumni. That has not an will not happen in football. Lest we forget, before Hurricane Katrina they very nearly gave up their football program altogether.

I expect Tulane will struggle to find a head coach. They may even seriously consider Bustle before it is all over.

I'm not, Tulane is 4th in their own market behind the Saints, Hornets and Zephyrs. They only accept 12 athletes who don't meet their admission standards per class. This limits them severely in recruiting, why would HUD leave here when he can basically determine when and where he gets his next job. HUD has the perfect storm brewing here right now, growing support, soon to be new stadium, money coming in like never before and there are 3 SEC jobs that will likely open up within the next 5 years excluding Ole Miss. Dooley won't last more than two more years, reicht at Georgia is on a short leash and finally, HUD's dream job will be open in 3-5 years if Mullen can't get MSU to be the 3rd best program in the West.

IMO HUD will ride this job until he can land one of those three gigs.

Does anyone feel that we can pay a coach 800K to 1M a year? Possibly sometime sioon with increased revenues from football and RCAF?

Yes, we can. Even without outside money if we continue to average 28k+ per game. We are making about 500k per game right now or close to it, we could reinvest that into the staff in need be.

I dont know what we can pay him, but I was told by people who know that a million would be next to impossible

And this isnt really all that big a story. Its been in the works for a while, and they already have a replacement lined up

They can, but Hud isn't interested in a C-USA program. His dream is to coach in the SEC.

They are a lower profile program in C-USA with no on campus stadium or fan support. He might get a call, but his interest long term is the SEC.

I would think it would be considerably more with all of the concessions sold. I for one always end up spending more on concessions than I do on the ticket. So I guess the real question is whether or not Hud would stay here long term if we could improve the salary substantially.

I think it would be fantastic that after 3 to 5 years Hud has this program as one of the top non-AQ programs and he gets his SEC job. UL would no longer be a coaching death sentence and instead a place awesome coaches want to come to.

For an example of how poorly Tulane is covered in the NO market the story about Toledo's firing is already gone from the home page of their website NOLA.com. It has already been replaced only hours after happening by some routine Saints and LSU filler stories.

Also, Z just sent me a text saying that he is in the NO area and listening to Bobby Hebert on WWL radio pimping Bebe for the Tulane job. That would be quite a match, Bebe and a bunch of Uptown blue bloods. LOL!
