I thought Sagarin had Louisiana at 23... not 62...
The part of Sagarin used in the BCS has us at 25

Strange but what the BCS uses is not really a good measure. The predictor which is the last number on the chart is the best for predicting future outcomes. Cajuns are 97th and WKU is 154th. Our numerical predictor is 61.91 and WKU is 50.75. This gives you a baseline diffirential for expected outcome. The home team gets a three point advantage. So based on the Sagarin numbers the Cajuns should defeat WKU by 8.16 points.
Our current rank of schedule (schedule strength) is 162. Thus the reason we will probably continue to head down even if we win out.
The BCS isnt trying to predict future outcomes though. Its a measure of what you have done thus far. They're arent going to use a predictor to rank current teams. Its pointless for the same reason we were picked bottom or dead last before the season.
The part the BCS uses is what you have done in your games factoring what other teams have done in theres as part of your schedule. It also excludes margin of victory. To me that's as accurate as a computer can get and really the only relevant data.
Excluding the margin of victory is the part I take issue with. It is politically correct however it is not accurate even for rating current status. Margin of victory does tell you something about a team but they (BCS) is afraid to use it due to what it could led too. Primarily teams doing all they can to run up the scores knowing it will help them out.
Not saying they should change it. Unfortunately the formula is probably the best we can expect until someone forces a playoff systems.
