Thread: Live Game Talk UL vs FAU

I don't think anyone should get canned. You call the plays that your personnel can handle. Our defense isn't based on size, which means we need an offense that can take some time off the clock. We have the best cajun running back I've seen in years.
But somehow, I want us to stay off the bottom 10 list ALL season.

It really doesn't pay to get rid of Bustle now, the same ~~~~ will happen again.

we will have a since of false hope?

Who will they get anyways, no one wants to come here and ruin their coaching career, as it looks like Bustle is on that path.

I feel for the coaches and the players.

I love this university, but im just tired of losing.

I will not jump ship to another school, I just may not make it to another home football game cause i can't take the torture.

Whats wrong with the picture is the head coach. hes the one ultimately responsible. face it he hasnt done nothing since coming here. Eat his contract and hire someone that can do the job.

I see people getting flamed for their opinions of our University here. I got some slack last week for saying we WOULDN'T win the rest of our games and we would lose at least 3 games.

I did not however include FAU in that factor. You guys can keep making excuses, but I can bet you tonight's game put UL in a HUGE hole. I was speaking to many long time, diehard fans much like myself and they said we CAN'T afford to lose this game. You guys thought tonights attendance was bad (it was horrible for an ESPN plus game).... just wait until the next game!

Why is it that UL fans have more respect for the players than they have of themselves? UL played horrible. We had sooo many penalties that gave FAU points. We took a lot of cheap shots, as well as FAU did against us.

The way I see it. UL is right back to where it was when Baldwin was fired. You can't entertain people with a losing football team. This is sad to say, but the Cajuns mascot and FAU Owl mascot put on a marvelous show on the sidelines.

I think UL's team lacks confidence. They don't respect themselves. Bustle is obviously too lax with these guys. He must treat them like best buddies. These guys should not be making this many mistakes halfway into the season.
If I was the coach these guys would be running until next Friday! I played high school football. When we made stupid mistakes we paid for it. We did the belly flops, we did the stadiums, we paid for our mistakes. We played as a team though. UL has a good bunch of players, but they forget that they are on a team.

You guys can find any positive you want from this game, but I'll give you food for thought. Switch our kicker with their kicker and the final score was more like 37 - 10. We were given EVERY chance in the world to win and we didn't want it.

So after the game a guy asks me what I think of Desormeaux. I told the guy he is a great runner and prolly a heck of a reciever. I don't think he belongs at QB. Then I get a bunch of flack about my comment. I understand D is a freshman. I know it's not easy. I just see him wanting to take off and run too much. Babb is a great throwing QB and he can scramble. I think Babb will be our QB next year. I like D, I really do. I love his flashy runs, but I didn't see the passes against an 0 - 5 team that I should have. I HOPE he proves me wrong.

I heard many students say they aren't going to any more games this year. You take into consideration some of these students have been at every game for the last 3 years. If UL wants respect, they gotta earn it now. We've been way too nice in pointing out the positives wach week.

On a side note, I was impressed with the jambalya at the Alumni tent. It was amazing. This game had a lot of pregame hype with all the radio stations out there and lots of tents and free food and even free beer.

Been a long time reader of the forum but never felt compelled to really post. After tonight's performance I feel moved to express my agony.

As a student and a fan my first question is; Where do we go from here? I'm not saying all is lost but let's face facts. We've lost 3 games to teams who have been perennial losers and are known nationally mostly for their inablity to win. Two of those loses were by a substantial margin as well mind you. Considering that the conference we play in is the most dismal in all of college football and combine that with the loses we have had this year, we are no doubt in the bottom 3 or 4 of all 117 divison 1A schools. Am i that far off base in thinking that we may win 1 game over a D1 oppnent?

My second question is; How long are we expected to endure watching such an inferior product? Fans want to see wins. Period. The last time Cajun fan got to experience that was 1995. You think the attendance was low tonight, just wait till the next home game. How can the average fan be expected to shell out money to go and watch a team who loses to a team that was 1-18? All we hear is "this is the year". I'm tired of that run. I'm not asking for a bowl bid. I just want some sense of respectability.

I'm not calling for Bustle's head. Hell ,by taking the job the guy showed more brass than most but don't expect me to buy into that b.s. about this being the year. I've eaten that s*** for a couple of years now and frankly I don't want to anymore.

Here's to another year in the dumps. Cheers.

  10. Default Owls crush Cajuns

Just like that, the University of Louisiana's hopes for a Sun Belt Conference title and a host slot in the New Orleans Bowl, gone.

    Danny Embick saw to that.

The Florida Atlantic quarterback bedeviled the Ragin' Cajun defense throughout a rare Thursday night game, leading the upstart Owls to an easy 28-10 win in UL's league opener.

Embick threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns, and added the clinching touchdown with his own three-yard rollout with only 3:09 left. That score came in front of a mostly-empty Cajun Field, after the 14,208 in attendance grew frustrated with the hosts' struggles on both offense and defense.

"We didn't get anything done," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle. "We missed a lot of chances to make plays, but mostly we just didn't get it done."

Embick had two of his touchdown passes in the final quarter as FAU (1-5, 1-1 Sun Belt) recorded its first-ever league win.

"He was tough as nails," said FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger, whose team recorded its first win of the season. "He carried this team to a win tonight. He was on target, and just kept plugging away."

Mostly because of the senior signalcaller, FAU converted four third downs of 10 yards or more and had possession for over 36 minutes.

"That was my goal, just to move the chains," Embick said. "We wanted to get it to as many guys as we could early."

But Embick gave credit to his team's running game, which entered the game averaging only 97 yards per game. FAU rushed for 154 yards after being held under 100 in three of its first five games.

"We've been waiting for our running game to burst open all season," Embick said. "We were able to open that up tonight, and that opened up the capability for us to throw it some."

I agree with a lot of what you've said. Winning is a habit, so too is losing; and right now we're going the wrong way. I see "potential" in our young skill players; but they haven't learned how to win, at least not on this level.
As for Micheal Desormeaux, I believe he is a playmaker, a difference maker; so you've got to get the ball into his hands. However, that does NOT mean it has to be from the center! He'll probably get one more chance next week depending on Babb's injury; but I'd really like to see Babb back under center.
Regarding attendance, I'm thankful the next two games are on the road. It the students don't come out to support the team, Cajun Field will feel like a morgue!

I haven't given up; but its getting damn hard not to.

    1) Didn't FAU beat North Texas last year?
    2) UCF wasn't always stinky, they did have Daunte Culpepper as QB
    3) EMU's having a decent year this year.

We lost. So what? Problem is we were all looking past FAU, and don't say that you weren't. Next up ASU, a very talented ASU team.

We may not have a great year, but it's still not to late to have a good one.
