Could have picked just about every one of those choices; but tried to focus on two relating to funding. I think an athletic foundation of some kind could really help. I also chose the funding changes from the state. Not that I think the state should foot the bill for the whole shooting match; but we need to be able to compete on a level playing field with schools from other states; so this not only affects us, but also LaTech, ULM, etc. When a school like WKU has almost double the budget we do and they don't even play D-1A football, something is wrong with this picture!
Once the revenue streams are flowing we can address paying staff and continuing with athletic improvements.

On a side note, I don't know how many of you watched the UNT-Troy game last night but they got a very nice "promo" of their facilities while talking to former coach Hayden Fry. Hopefully we don't let them get too far out in front or we will be waving bye-bye to them before we know it.

I think the biggest thing that can help is the most possible at this point. The Cajuns have to win in football. It's the biggest sport in college and it's our worst right now. Winning will generate people, money, TV coverage, Hype. We're right there. This year could be big, I think recruits interested in coming here and continuing our progress need to see some wins now.

I was recently told that Dr. Authemont turned down...or there has been a disagreement in starting an Athletic Foundation. Do you know about any of this?

Aside from football, I would say we are already over the hump. Unfortunately for us everyone considers football to be more important than all of the other sports combined.

I think too many of us look at LSU’s athletic foundation and think a Cajun Athletic Foundation would be able to do the same. If we had an athletic foundation I would have to question whether or not it would be that effective. Remember that athletic foundations are good because they solicit private donations, but at a school like UL you aren’t going to get very many private donations. Have you ever heard of the Indian Athletic Foundation (ULM) contributing anything of relevance? I’m sure it would be a positive thing in the long run and would provide a few extra bucks for the athletic department but it wouldn’t be enough to get us over the hump.

That is assuming Acadiana is tapped out, and that fund raising efforts have 100% coverage.

I am tempted to ask the same question I asked Nelson S. (over the readio) when he stated a similar line a year before Gerald Hebert was hired.

"If they were only able to raise enough money to cover their own salary, wouldn't it be worth it?"
